I was talking to my friend today. This friend of mine introduced me to Linkin Park and made me the uber fan I am today. But recently, he's been talking about how he really doesn't like the band he once loved. Saying things like Living Things was uninspiring and the band have lost their energy and lost the ability to create exciting or unique songs. And I'm kinda agreeing with him on some parts. For example, today I listened to High Voltage, and I just tough "Mike hasn't rapped as well as this again, and the music behind his raps hasn't been as good as this either." What do you guys think?
LIVING THINGS was both a creative and business oriented move. Essentially, their recent album may have resulted in the almost generic format it was due to an effort in trying to recapture that familiarity amongst themselves as well as their fans, while diffusing the alienating effects of ATS. The band is not going downhill. They are as open-minded and confident in their craft as ever. Their attention to detail will remain meticulous as usual, and their ever-expanding experimental edge will not falter. Collectively, the band is in a very good state of mind and even if their final studio releases fail to achieve their 'magnum opus', at the very least it will be a fun, surprising, and unpredictable ride towards the end.
Ahah. To be honest, I felt the same way in some occasions too (not the case anymore though). There have been times after ATS and LT releases where I wondered why I was still a fan of the band. Then, in both case, High Voltage (2001 version) has happened to come randomly when I was listening to some music on random-mode. And in each case, after having listened to the song again after such a long time, I thought "Fuck. I remember why I'm a fan of this band!". But... Essentialy. To each to their own. Edit: I noticed my post could make me look more pessimist than I am, so yes, to answer the thread properly, I don't think LP are going downhill.
what? i'm sure linkin park don't are going downhill i like ats i like living things this is the best cd but i'm only a crack in this castle of glass sorry i'm only a one fans so I'd like to read what others think
The main reason I'm staying with LP is because they keep changing how they do their music. I will stick to them like super glue.
they have changed my life are part of me and my life have made me capable of things that I did not think I was capable of being taken off his shyness and they gave me the courage to have a first time love what I'll never forget
I'm getting sick of people putting them down and being so pessimistic about the band's future. The band members haven't showed any signs of wanting to quit and they have shown nothing but support for one another. People need to stop being so over dramatic and negative.
I think they've been fairly consistent. Hybrid Theory was awesome. Reanimation was better than Hybrid Theory. Meteora was worse than Hybrid Theory and Reanimation. Minutes to Midnight was awesome. A Thousand Suns was better than Minutes to Midnight. Living Things is not as good as Minutes to Midnight or A Thousand Suns. If they're to follow this pattern, their next album is set to be awesome!
Personally, I think "Midnight" and "Living Things" are pretty close in terms of quality but, other than that, I agree with your assessment.
