In a shocking twist, I guess I'm more into Living Things than a lot of LPA users. I don't necessarily disagree with a lot of what's been said in this thread, but...I guess it just doesn't put me off a whole lot. I still enjoy a good deal of the album.
Wow, what a coincidence! Those are my the least favorite songs from Living Things... LITE is cheesy as fu*k, I'll Be Gone is generic and boring and BID is just...whatever. but, hey, I'm glad that at least somebody likes it.
When LIVING THINGS came out, Like everybody, I was ecstatic. As time has gone on and after numorous listens through, I still love the album. I'm just now discovering the details of the synth on Burn It Down, for example. In My Remains has that brilliant cadence that still brings a smile to my face. Lost In The Echo Brings me back and the melody of the chorus is amazing. Lies Greed Misery has that filthy sounding bass backing up Mike followed by the happy-go-lucky noise in the chorus which balances out great. Every time I hear I'll Be Gone, I find something new to love about it. I think this is the most critically underrated song on the album. Castle Of Glass still has that epic feeling in the song's entirety. Victimized is still brutally awesome. The synth work on there is incredible. Road Untravelled still feels personal and I love how the chorus is left without words as if it were up to me to put the words there. Skin To Bone still pulls the goose bumps out of my skin! That track is so chilling with the way the vocal effects are put with the instrumental track. Until It Breaks is so abstract that it manages to still hold my attention hostage. It has a great eb and flow feel to it. Tinfoil/Powerless, as I see them as one track, is still that amazing clincher that I first heard over a half a year ago. The meaning of the lyrics contstantly change and the instrumental track makes me feel like I'm on a journey. I still love this album. I still support the band. I will contunue supporting the band. If anyone wants to stop supporting them, just like the nu-metal fanboys, have fun doing what you're doing, I'll keep being a fan.
I know you're not like this, Hybrid, but at the end of your post, it seems like you're accusing anyone who critiques the band as not being a true fan. Being a fan doesn't always mean blindly following and supporting everything someone does. In fact, I would argue it's essential for a fan to view things objectively. Like I said, I don't think you truly think like this, but I just wanted to let you know how it came across to me.
Dude, thank you for pointing that out, but, I can assure you that I didn't mean for it to come across like that. What the very last line was referring to was the Nu-Metal fanboys who cry and complain about how Linkin Park evolved and completely turned their backs on the band, thus becoming non(anti)-fans. I know to each their own, But as long as Linkin Park keeps making music that I love, I have no qualms in supporting them. I give their music a chance. Somethings they've made, believe it or not, took a while longer than others to digest. I didn't run blindly into Minutes To Midnight or A Thousand Suns instantly loving them. I used to be one of those Nu-Metal fans, but, I gave them a chance. It just so happens that by doing so, I feel like it has evolved my way of listening to music and appreciating it differently. I'm no longer in that stone-age mentality of "If it's not metal, it's garbage," and I couldn't be happier. My music tastes have changed so that when I'm listening to music, it's because it is what I like, not because it's what other people like.
Exactly. I have read enough of your posts where I can understand what you were trying to say. However, I just wanted you to clarify because, for someone who doesn't know you as we'll, they could misinterpret what you meant.
First half of the album? Eh, exluding IMR's second half. Last Half? Really good. It just seems at odds where the first half stagnates and the last half is experimental.
Everything after BID is decent, I can consider IMR and IBG as cheap shots at getting Midnight fans back.
I like "Lost In The Echo" and "In My Remains" less than I did a few months back but, other than that, my opinions on the other songs haven't changed.
This pretty much sums up how I still feel about Living Things. I will agree though, that at times, the mixing on the album isn't that great at times.
Wow, I hope Linkin Park stops making music just so all you assholes stop your bitching. They can never satisfy the stupid LP fan community. I appreciate every song on the album just like every other track they have ever presented on their previous releases. And NO, it has no major comparison to their previous albums if you compare LT to any other album alone. This is a new alternative sound just like they always do. At best, you could compare the first half to New Divide which is one out of hundreds of tracks they've made, I'm talking about sound as well, not structure in specific.
The first three points pretty much illustrate a few reasons why I was underwhelmed by the album at the get-go. I think I got it down to where I recognize when I would have only liked things due to hype. That being said, the songs I DON'T skip I've gotten to like a little better. Tracks 1,2,3, and Powerless: the songs I listen to at the start are still the only songs on the album I listen to. I find that I want to listen to them more often than I expected. That said, the middle of the album had made no improvement in my head and I completely ignore it. And because I only really like 4 songs on the album makes me inclined to say that the album is subpar. Basically, songs improved. Album didn't. Take a look in the mirror man, the only one being an asshole in this entire thread is you. All these people are just sharing their opinions in an actually pretty constructive manner without any ad hominem at all. Fuck them for having an honest opinion, right? By the way, Linkin Park is too smart to expect that everyone like all of their music. They've made a diverse setlist and people have different tastes. Only an idiot would expect the LP fanbase to agree on everything. Not to mention "This is a new alternative sound just like they always do" is an oxymoron.
My main problems lie with the mixing/mastering as i've stated before, the album just sounds technically bad in my studio in comparison to Reanimation, which they made over 10 years ago: In fact I listened to Brothers In Arms by Dire Straits the other day, that was produced in 1985 and sounded better quality! I'm not knocking the musicality of the songs though, i'm fine with "generic" song structures that a few other people have problems with, and i'm cool with throwbacks to Minutes To Midnight or Meteora, but the mixing is just.. eh.
You're right! We should lower our expectations and standards to a minimum, and appreciate everything LP makes... after all, we are their fans, right? and fans should always support their band, no matter what.
