how is LIVING THINGS shaping up for you? we have heard BID, LGM, and TINFOIL (live). what do you think of them? how have them and the descriptions of other songs shaped your opinion thus far of LT? do you think this album could be their best? where do you think it will stand with their other albums?
Well there hasn't been a negative review yet which is to be expected as they are promotional ones. However the fan ones were definitely a positive as these reviewers are just fans too. I'm as excited for this album as I've ever been about any LP release. I'm also a fan from way back and listen to HT and Meteora just as much as ATS, if not more. So I certainly look forward to this album as a throwback to the early years. It's shaping up beautifully
The way I see it, the guy from MTV that claimed ATS was amazing and LP's Kid A (which I totally agree with) liked it, so I'm holding it to high expectations while also keeping an open mind.
I agree with this. I'm keeping an open mind but i still think it could be really good. The descriptions make me think it will be great. Minus, what do you think of LIES GREED MISERY?
I think it's awesome. The instrumentation is sick and it's something the band hasn't really done before. The rhyme scheme is like A A B C C B in the verses, which is new for Mike. It has a very crowd-participatory chorus. Like Wretches and Kings (actually, more so than W&K), this is what Meteora SHOULD'VE been.
So far it feels like an album I didn't know I wanted but love from what I've listened to and read online. Both Burn It Down and Lies Greed Misery were both songs I felt comfortable with after the first listen (something I haven't felt since New Divide) and with each listen I appreciate them more and more. While I'm still not sure it will outdo the masterpiece that is A Thousand Suns on an artistic level, so far it's giving ATS a run for its money based on the music itself.
I'm not expecting it to be as epic as A Thousand Suns, but that allows me to look for something completely different in Living Things. Fun rather than epicness. The first descriptions of the album were upbeat, short, firecrackery individual songs with dinosaurs and cheetahs strapped to rockets. So far that expectation is being met exactly. I'm looking forward to an album that is fun to listen to, and hopefully with plenty of surprises. Basically the only way this album could really be ruined if it were really predictable.
If anything, Living Things has panned out to be nothing short of unpredictable. Which is how we felt with ATS. It's a good feeling. I always said that the only way to keep in the spirit of A Thousand Suns (AKA ATS II) is to do something that is nothing like A Thousand Suns. By nature, that's what has to be done. This is living up to that. Especially with everyone talking about the folk influence. I love folk. I'm hyped.
Mixed feelings for me so far. The first two songs we've heard are so different from any other LP song. Reviews are saying the old LP is back, yet after listening to BID and LGM it feels to me they've taken yet another step forward as a band (Especially with LGM). I love both songs though I would never had predicted the type of sound from the first two tracks. It has me incredibly pumped for the album not having a clue what to expect.
I think that this album is definitely gonna be a step down from A Thousand Suns. "Burn it Down" sounds like the entire last album distilled into a pop song. That's totally cool with me, I just think there were some opportunities missed. The rap could've been way tighter and I think the the drum break that followed it should've completely transformed the song. "Lies Greed Misery" strikes me as a far inferior version of "Blackout" and I wasn't the biggest fan of that song either. Don't get me wrong, I'mma still play the shit out of the album once it comes out. This and Food & Liquor II are not gonna leave my iPod, no matter what I actually think of them.
It's hard to describe. With LGM I'm not quite sure what I'm listening to but I keep on listening to it. And I'm not gonna judge how the albums shaping up with only 2 full songs released so my feelings are mixed, Mr Baby.
that's whay there it says so far, but yeah i totally understand. I'm just so excited for this release. Probably most excited Lp release for me (the scavenger hunt also helped in this).
I didn't mean predictable in a Linkin Park sense so much as a predictable in a general sense. Burn it Down, for example, is a good song to me but it didn't really have anything particularly new or surprising about it. It felt like a song that took no risks and played everything perfectly safe, and for that it's going to get less plays before I get tired of it. LGM is much better, but I kinda get the same kinda vibe from it. As if they were just reusing all the tools from their toolbox and combining them in different ways, but with the results on a little on the too-familiar side. All old tools without any new ones to play with. Their combination is the only really new part, while the individual parts aren't new at all. Yet, that's only two songs and there are a lot left. For all I know on the remaining tracks, LP did find a way to combine their toolboxes in a way that made it totally fresh. That will be the barrier between a good album and a great album for me.
I like both Burn It Down and Lies Greed Misery a lot, and if these two song represent what the album will sound like, then I'll be very satisfied. Whether or not it will be better than A Thousand Suns remains to be seen. Personally, ATS is my favorite album, so Living Things has a lot to live up to.
Its a step up from ATS for me, disliked that album and was nervous for this one. The energy in the tracks so far is fun! So seems like it's on the right track to me!
Will not be as "ground breaking" and creative as ATS, but I don't think it's meant to be at all. I don't know which one I'll prefer.
I think it likely won't be as varied or experimental for LP as ATS was, but it'll still bring many new sounds to the table and expand their repertoire. That being said, I can see it being way more fun to listen to, which I think is what LP intended with it anyway.
These options are terrible. The only positive option is the top one and the rest are pretty damn negative. I can't agree that this will be their best album yet so therefore shouldn't vote for the top one, but I'm not negative about the album so far. Ah well, I'll vote top
