I like how you're playing it out to be a bad thing. Which is exactly what Big Bang Theory enforces. Fuck that shit. Nerds and geeks come in all shapes and sizes. Vin Diesel plays Dungeons and Dragons. Stephen Colbert speaks Elvish. Mila Kunis, Lights, Dave Chappelle, and countless others play (or have played) World of Warcraft. That's why I hate that they make fun of geeks and nerds. We are not just glasses-wearing, anti-social dorks. We're a wide array of people.
That was not my point. I wasn't playing it out to be a bad thing. What I was saying was that, if you weren't a nerd, you wouldn't be defending yourself. Which you did once again in this post, although I haven't said a single bad word about nerds. Nor geeks.
I'm not defending it because I'm a nerd/geek myself. That being my only reason is both stupid for me to do and stupid for you to assume. I guess that means I'm black, since I defend racism against black people. Oh also I must be homosexual, because I defend them as well. And I'm mentally-challenged. I'm being mad about it because it's reinforcing a stereotype that is wrong. I'd do the same for a show like Blue Mountain State, that reinforces the stereotype that college jocks are complete idiots.
Eh, I watch The Big Bang Theory and How I Met Your Mother occasionally and they're pretty funny, but they've got nothing on Everybody Loves Raymond - in my opinion, the last truly great sitcom. Edit: Plus, Patricia Heaton was fucking sexy as hell until the last few seasons. Nevermind the fact that she's a psycho in real life
That 70's Show. How I Met Your Mother. Friends. Community. The Office. Parks and Recreation. Big Bang Theory (sometimes. I kind of have to turn off my brain. It's kind of a downer though because my family thinks "Yup, dorks in a nutshell. Derp." Edit: Just to clarify. They think that it is an actual, spot on portrayal of geeks/dorks/nerds. I do not.
How is it not an accurate portrayal? They're not saying all nerds are like that. It's not a big stretch to believe that 4 nerds that work in the same building would become friends. And they're not even remotely alike. There's a variety of nerds.
I'm not a huge zapper, and most of the TV I watch is sports but I think The Big Bang Theory is damn hilarious. I love it.
Black Books would probably be #1 for me.
