Just wondering, does anyone think Rick Rubin will be around with Linkin Park producing their albums for a really long time?
No, Rick Rubin isn't good enough for LP. I mean, what has he done except tell Run-DMC and Aerosmith to collaborate? And tell the Beastie Boys to transform into a rap group? And be the producer of every important Red Hot Chili Peppers album? And bring Johnny Cash back into prominence with HIS suggestion of covering NIN's Hurt? And found Def Jam? That Rick guy, just a nobody I tell ya.
And helped Adele make 21? And make LP avoid making Meteora Part II? And helped Justin Timberlake evolve from a cheesy teen into making the best sexy album ever? And made "99 Problems", one of the best songs of the 2000s? Such a nobody.
I think he's a great producer, but I doubt LP will stick with him forever. Eventually, I see Mike being their producer.
I hope so, he challenges them, I think with any other producer they could slip back into a comfort zone again.
Jay Z was just an executive, he listened to the tracks Mike made and sat nodding his cap saying "Yeeeeaah. Chiah! Awr!" as Mike wrote notes based on these signature grunts.
I've lost count of the amount of times Chester and Mike have subtely said that Rick is twice as good as him lol. I don't think Don is on very good terms with them, also I think "Get Me Gone" was based on Don Gilmore: "He told Joe Hahn to wear a cowboy hat and a lab coat, I swear to god he's crazy! He then went on to claim that he wrote all of our songs.."
