I don't know if many non-Australians are aware of what has been happening with our eforts to stop these "experiments" on whales, but as of the last 24 hours Australian crewmen were facing charges in Japan (which have been dropped) for boarding a Japanese ship that was killing whales. They cannot provide sufficient evidence that this is purely scientific and how they are not poaching the mammals.

I think what these guys on the seas are doing is brave and righteous. They have been blasted with water cannons and interferred with their kills and yet our PM as of recently, is so quick to label these people as Aussie Idiots. The Japanese have been known to poach in our waters and international waters and yet the international community will do nothing to stop them.

    Opinions.

Many of these "brave and righteous" men have KILLED Japanese "scientists".

I am entirely pro animal rights but killing people is just as bad as killing animals.

Also, boarding a vessel without permission is a serious crime.

There has been near death collisions with the Sea Shephard and its many other ships, but no reported deaths as far as i know of. The major clash between the whalers and protestors was in March 2008 and I cannot find anything to suggest deaths.

Those people boarded a ship in international water, its considered being a pirate. They had no right to do so and its totally their fault. Australia can't do anything about the issue because its in international water. The PM can not doing anything and people who say so, don't know what they are talking about. The only thing any country can do is pressure the Japanese to stop. Which a lot country have been doing for many years now.

Of course they are eating the whales, haha. They kill hundreds each year. Its totally wrong to kill them. Hump back whale numbers are rising though, they nearly went extinct when Whaling was around but their numbers are coming back.

International waters doesn't mean it isn't a crime.
Also they hunt in OUR waters all the time.

Also their have been no deaths.

The Japanese are nothing but criminals in this case, we should be torpedoing these ships

You do realise Hump Backs are still legally a protected species and any killing of them purposely, is considered an international crime? You also do realise that purposely lying about your kills for food, and claiming that you need to kill the whales to extract their tissues for samples for research is lying and that itself is a crime.

There was that show Whale Wars that aired on Discovery Channel here in the U.S. I watched it and I think the Whales should be left alone... I doubt the Japanese are doing research. Any Scientist with integrity will tell you that no amount of research should warrant the killing of a harmless creature.

We definitely need to start putting more pressure on the Japanese to stop. We need to start threatening them with consequenses. (We meaning the UN.)

So saying things like "Hump Back whales numbers are rising" is sounding like a justification. They don't only kill them for food, but to use in other non-edible products like soap. Even if the Sea Shepperd wasn't involved. The point is. Whaling in international and Australian waters (especially a few days ago!) is highly illegal and still a crime.

Okay, so if boarding a ship illegally is considered piracy, what is water cannoning the Sea Sheppard called? Ramming their boat so it almost capsizes?

I agree something should be done to prevent whaling from occuring.

However, I don't agree with the the boarding of the Japanese vessel. Just because the Japanese are doing something illegal doesn't make it justifiable no matter how good the intentions are.

When you feel like a cause is worth fighting for, sometimes that involves extremes.

Just wanted to jump in and say that the more rights animals have, the less rights humans have.

But overhunting is also bad for humanity. Even more so when it's done internationally and it goes against their laws.
