As Linkin Park's September 23rd show in Bangkok, Thailand draws nearer, Thailand English news website The Nation has posted an interview they recently conducted with Mike Shinoda. In the interview Mike again was asked about Linkin Park's tentative fifth studio album in which he responded that he still is not sure what it will sound like. Mike was also reluctant to estimate the release date. Besides new music he was also again asked about the future of his side project Fort Minor among other things. Here's the first part of the interview:

It seems as though Mike at this point is still hesitant to give details about Linkin Park's next album. Chester on the other hand has said in the past that he would be "shocked" if the next album did not come out in 2012.. However, with Mike not showing the same confidence it's impossible at this moment to say when fans will get new music from Linkin Park. With that said, we do know that the band has already spent considerable time recording new music and that Rick Rubin is producing the next album.

As Linkin Park wraps up their touring for the year and heads back into the studio, be sure to stay tuned to the Linkin Park Association for all of the latest news regarding the band's upcoming album and all other things Linkin Park!

Well seeing that it takes more than a year. LPs already been in the studio for four months this year. And from October to March is another 6 months. So altogether that's 10 months. I could see an album by mid 2012?

I would think that's likely. Hopefully Mike is just being super conservative, which he most likely is.

Here's pretty much how the process goes:

    1. Linkin Park begins work on new album.
    2. Everything seems to be running smoothly. Will there be an album out next year? Absolutely there should be!
    3. A member(s) of Linkin Park begin working on a small side project or two; an art show, a second band, a movie score, etc. Will there be an album out next year? Maybe. And by the way, they have no idea what it will sound like, but it will definitely be different.
    4. The band gets very into tinkering with the music they are making, and the creative process becomes very drawn out.
    5. The album doesn't come out next year.

Just so people don't get sucked into the trap. :awesome:

P.S. I made this list with all the love in the world. You just come to know what to expect when you've been a hardcore fan of a band since their first album.

I'm not trying to be a killjoy or anything, but I don't think the new album will be out soon. I'm used to LP taking forever releasing albums, something tells me this album will take quite a while.

Yeah, I basically agree with you, though I do think Linkin Park will be a little faster than in the past.
But I am very, very optimistic? (confident answer...)

One thing to remember is that the gap between Meteora and Minutes to Midnight had Collision Course, Fort Minor, and a shit load of touring. And also that in between Minutes to Midnight and A Thousand Suns there was another shitload of touring (much more than the ATS world tour), Dead By Sunrise, and a DBS tour.

If LP this time around elects to just focus on their new album I think a 2012 release is likely. The band already was in the studio for a month after the North American tour and another 2 months after the European summer tour. I just can't imagine them taking another 15 months to make another album.

I think Mike is pretty smart not to say when the album might come out or what it will sound like. Cause honestly, whenever Mike has said anything about an album release or what the music sounds like has always been set in stone by most Linkin Park fans. If something goes wrong and things change most fans freak out, call Mike a liar and start bugging him non-stop on his blog about when the album will come out.

I'm not saying all Linkin Park fans are crazy but the general audience can be a little... "Crazy". That's why I enjoy coming to the LPA for all my Linkin Park news. Everyone here, for the most part, seems to be pretty smart when it comes to any Linkin Park related news. :p

That blog post alone started the whole shit storm that was "A Thousand Suns". I'm still surprised that after it went from 2009, early 2010 and finally late 2010 that people didn't call for Shinoda's head!
