As promised in our "Winners" post for the LPA Monthly Mix-Up Dubstep competition, today we are announcing the next theme for our LPAsssociation.com Monthly Mix-Up. For this month we have decided to bring our fans something extra special.

    SEPTEMBER

But first, for those who don't know...

What Is the LPA Monthly Mix-Up?

LPA Monthly Mix-Up is a new and ambitious concept intended to showcase the massive amount of musical talent currently unheard among the Linkin Park fan community. Every month, we here at the LPA will be challenging fans to compete and show off their musical skills, using any and all tools available to them to create their entry. At the conclusion of each competition period, our staff will then go through each entry submitted, and pick our absolute favorite to be featured on the site as the "Winner Of The Month" with the next round of competition starting the moment the winner from the previous month is chosen. To promote fairness, runner ups will also be shown, but only one Linkin Park fan will walk away with the honor of being featured as the "Monthly Winner"

So, How Does It Work? (Official Rules)
In order to make the contest more interesting and more challenging for those who enter, every month we will be posting a theme that all entrants are required to abide by to be considered for feature on the site. There will be no limitations on key, BPM or length (so go ahead and make a 10 minute entry!), but each submission MUST adhere to the genre (or genres) provided by us to be eligible for the competition.

Users must submit their entry as a reply to the this thread, and may use SoundCloud or YouTube to host their works. All SoundCloud submissions must feature THIS GRAPHIC as the album art, and likewise all YouTube videos must contain the aforementioned graphic in some format with the words "LPASSOCIATION.COM Monthly Mix-Up Entry:" appearing somewhere within the video/soundcloud upload title. This is done to help spread word about the monthly competitions so that more submissions can be made possible.

The Linkin Park Association will NOT be providing links to legit instrumentals/multitracks at this time (due to licensing/copyright restrictions), so it is the sole responsibility of the entrants to obtain the files needed to create their entries. It is possible to find these tracks via a search in Google, however; to protect ourselves we will not be hosting these files until we one day receive permission from Warner Brothers to do so.

    How Can I Enter?
Easy! Just upload your submission to Soundcloud/YouTube following the rules above, and submit it via a reply to this thread. One month from today's date (October 15th, 2011) we will go through every submission and pick our favorite(s) for feature on the front page of the LPA. We encourage everyone to submit their entries (regardless of technical/musical/vocal proficiency) as we really would like this project to become something that every fan feels welcome to become involved in. The staff here all agree that the music community for Linkin Park has for the most part (apart from official competitions) gone completely unnoticed, and this is our way of giving attention to fans out there looking to get their talents heard!

Now That We Have That Out Of The Way...

Our official theme for the month of SEPTEMBER is:

    Acoustic/Unplugged

Although we originally set out for Monthly Mix-Up to be solely a remix competition, one thing we realized from watching covers on YouTube is just how good of a performance can give when they are allowed to put their own spin on a Linkin Park song, whether it be through performing it by themselves or through a band.

For this month, we have decided to put a spotlight on bands/artists who are fans of Linkin Park and like to make covers of their music. The only requirement we have for this month is that the cover MUST be acoustic/unplugged. Fans may submit a cover in ANY style possible (whether it be soft rock, folk, jazz, etc) as long as they include unplugged instruments such as piano, acoustic guitar, violin, tambourine, etc. Please refrain from adding in non-acoustic/unplugged instrument sampling or synthesizers. We want the entries to be raw, and organic, as sometimes the best emotion is felt when everything else is stripped away. Artists are also able use their voice as an instrument, so if you do not know how to play guitar but would like to use your voice to create an instrumental (Imogen Heap's "Hide And Seek" being an example), go right ahead! Group submissions are allowed.

Extra kudos will be given to contest entrants who pick unconventional LP songs to reinterpret. The easy route to take is a piano cover of My December or an acoustic version of The Messenger, but we encourage participants to really showcase their talents by reinterpreting a song in a way never heard before.

For the remainder of month of September and until October 15th, we are challenging YOU the fans to make your covers and surprise us with your creativity.

    Good luck!

I like the way Mark worded my post better. Thanks for rewording it Mark .

Also if you DO use YouTube, you're welcome to show yourself and do a video of you actually performing live, just try to have that graphic at the end of the video or before it.

Sorry you feel that way. We'll be going back to remixes next month. This is just to broaden this competition's reach and make LPA Monthly Mix-Up something for everyone. Remember, the more people that know about this series, the more entries we get...and the more themes we're able to do (covers AND remixes) the longer this can go. We're trying to make this something everyone can be a part of.

I bet you there will be a lot more entries on this one than last month's dubstep. I can't wait to see the entries! :D

I won't enter this month because other people need to win. I might make an acoustic remix of one song just for fun though. Good luck everyone!

Yeah, I guess. I'm just wondering how many people can actually put an acoustic song together. And of those people, who can make something unique.

Is this a cover or can people still use the vocal tracks of the song they choose? And you have to play the instruments? So we can't whip up something 100% acoustic through, say, FL Studio?

I sort of have a similar question. If I wanted to create a piano track through MIDI programming, could I?

As long as it uses acoustic/unplugged instruments, it doesn't matter if it's an actual instrument or digital.

I think Derek mis-spoke in his original post. I will edit. We don't want to make this too restrictive.

Ah, that's makes things so much easier. The only acoustic instruments I own are my guitar and my drum set.

So, you can't use synths at all, even if it isn't prominent in the least, sort of like background music? I think acoustic+electric would sound pretty good...

What about reverb and delay and stuff? Or is it all out acoustic like we'd be playing around a campfire?

Synthesizers aren't very acoustic/unplugged. Just stick to the basics so this doesn't get any more complicated than it needs to be. :p
