So I came across this and thought it would generate some interesting discussion on respect, loyalty to fans and professionalism. Michael Buble was scheduled to play the Mohegan Sun Hotel in Uncasville, US tonight, but instead rescheduled the show for tomorrow to watch the Hockey Finals.

    Taken from michaelbuble.com:
His reasoning that he's catering for his fans who also happen to be "die-hard hockey fans" is funny. I know he's Canadian and I know he can probably afford to do this and it probably won't harm his reputation at all, but is it fair to all the people who have made travel plans, booked hotels and centred their schedule around that date? What do you think?

I put this in Serious Chat because it's not about music per say, but instead about the ethics of the situation.

They have a refund policy so I don't see it as a major problem. At least he was honest enough give the reason behind the pushback... he could've easy pulled a "health issue" excuse or something along that line.

He seems already arrogant enough even before this event.

Seems like a decent thing to do, in my opinion. I see nothing wrong with this.

Also, the assumption (even if it may be valid) that this makes sense due to Buble being Canadian is pretty funny.

That aside, I can see a band rescheduling a show for the Superbowl. Why not the last game for the Stanley Cup?

I think it's fine. No one can predict circumstances on a final for any sport. Uncasville is within 100 Miles of Boston, which is, infact, a team that made the finals. It's definite Bruin territory. If I had tickets to a concert and it fell on the same night as game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals and my Blackhawks were playing, you're damn right I would skip the concert. The Bruins haven't won the Stanly Cup since '72. It's a big deal. Just like it is a big deal in Vancouver, who has never won a Stanley Cup Championship. It's a big deal to Buble who is from the Vancouver area. My point is, besides it being a big deal, he's giving people the option to get their money back from the tickets and enjoy watching the end of a great hockey season by both organizations. For the people that booked hotels and made travel plans, yes this sucks, but I know usually on a ticket it says something along the lines of "All programs, artists, dates and times are subject to change." That being said, the people travelling still have a chance to do something about it. If they can't make the concert, atleast they will get their money back from it. I don't see a problem catering to the area that a performance is supposed to take place.

    This guy

I never cared for him to be honest. Though I don't see a problem with him cancelling or postponing a show due to an important sporting event such as the Stanley Cup Finals

I've heard of him, but I couldn't name one song or tell you anything about him except my friend said he was gay.

The real question would be, what's hockey?

    Pretty darn gay alright :p

Also I don't think this is that big a deal. There are far worse reasons to postpone a show, and he only moved it back a day and people are being offered refunds if they still can't make it. Basically I think Minus and Hybrid are right.

I never liked him, but I'm liking him more after this move. You gotta show your fans who's in charge sometimes.

If I could translate the Stanley Cup final to the Super Bowl, I'm definitely on Buble's side here. Assuming he's on a big tour, I wouldn't think there would be too many people that have to do anything more than get in their car to see the show.
