    The final essay
    Welcome to KPop and Youtube featuring the Korean Language
    What is KPop? KPop stands for Korean Pop. It is mostly originated in South Korea, near China. It is located way west of the United States.
    The very first Korean group that I was introduced to in 2010 was 4 Minute. They are a female group. They have four members in their group and their lead singer is Hyun_Ah. The second group was SHINee. They are a male group. They have five members in their group and their lead singer is Taemin. By watching their videos, I was really intrigued by KPop all by itself. I wanted to explore more. Being on Youtube, exploring Korean Pop (with learning the Korean language) and the communications of writing does affect the way we write all together.
    Youtube is well known for video making to put on the internet. It’s also known for another way of watching movies and television shows and even commercials that stands out, such as a very funny commercial that was shown on television in the 80’s. The only thing is that it takes a few days to download and it is divided into groups because of its duration-the timing of the videos.
    Also on Youtube, you can comment, rate, add as a friend, subscribe and have subscriptions. There are certain categories if you want to search for videos that can help you find a particular one (there are three main categories): videos, which includes all; channels and playlist. It is broken down into specific areas, such as:
    1. To sort by Relevance-Upload update, view count and rating.
    2. Upload date Anytime-Today, this week, this month.
    3. Video type, the sorted categories All-Film and animation, entertainment and shows
    4. Duration All-short (~4 minutes) or long (20~minutes) and
    5. Features All-closed captions, HD (high definition), partner videos, rental and WebM.
    I’ve been on Youtube since April 13, 2010. I now have 50 uploads. I had about 15 more, but I decided to delete them to make better videos. I have not been a member on Youtube not a year yet. It is getting close though. So far up to date, I have a total number of views of 13,115 and I have 8951 channel views. 101 channel comments, 1661 subscriptions, 795 friends and 44 subscribers.
    I’ve been told that I am a multi-talented person. My uploads are broken down into categories: Alternative Rock like Linkin Park for keyboard and clarinet, KPop dance video covers and singing within keyboard and dance. I had some belly dancing videos, but I deleted those for future teaching reasons. Plus, I like to look the part, so I did not have a belly dancing outfit yet. One of my friends is currently making me a belly dancing outfit and I am excited.
    While I am asleep, I get about 5 emails mostly about per day. Notifications like emails from someone that has commented on your video, replied from talking about another video, someone sending you friend requests and subscriptions to your channel. There can be numerous emails from listed above as well. I just get few every now and then.
    Notice how Mtv have not been playing a lot of music videos as much as they used to. They used to have one or two shows for music videos every early morning on weekdays. Then, they changed it to every Saturday’s and now they do not play them at all. So where have the music videos gone? They went to Youtube. It is for this reason: If you were to watch music videos on regular television, all you can do is to talk about it, verbally only if you are around your friends, family and others. If you are on the computer or laptop, again you can rate, comment and send replies to what others think. That way the video online maybe set up for view worldwide. International viewers sometimes can- not view the music videos that is in the USA like Missy Elliot-Loose Control. That video is not a worldwide video. It is only shown in the United States. Most television stations realized that Youtube has taken over the music video business. Youtube is rated number one for that and other video making and Youtube has been around since 2006.
    I am actually glad that the music videos have been showing mostly now on Youtube because that way the view counts of music videos can update. Plus, by following those categories in the search options box and the max numbers of views can determine if you can have an honor or many honors. For example, SMENT (a Korean Pop-S.M. Entertainment music company) they received many honors. In the past, they had about six or seven honors and now they have about twelve or thirteen honors. Not all Korean Pop musicians are assigned to SMENT like Super Junior and SHINee are. Groups like 2NE1 are assigned to Y. G. Entertainment. When people are nowhere near the computer or laptop, they head straight to their mp4 or mp3.
    An mp4 is a music video downloading device. That is what it is known for. Mp3’s are good for downloading music to only listen too. That is what I have. I had my mp3 for about five or six years. In the first couple of years, I really didn’t use it much only because I didn’t have the proper tools to use it and I didn’t know how to use it. Just last year, I know how to use it on my own. By doing so, I found two websites that are excellent sources for downloading music onto mp3’s and mp4’s. The first website does just that: http://www.4shared.com. All you have to do is once you are on that website, you type in the name of the artist and the song that you are looking for. For me, I wrote simple instructions in case I forget how to use this website:
    1. Click on the blue left button
    2. Wait ~108 seconds
    3. Click on “download file now”
    4. Save once
    5. Save twice and wait for the download to finish.
    http://beemp3.com is different:
    1. Type in the artist and the name of the song that you want
    2. Look on the right hand side and there is a code you have to type in like S ZF
    3. You have an option to listen to the song if you like. The reason is that some songs have different versions to it like Missy Elliot- Loose Control. There are three different versions to that song. On this website, I could not find the one that I wanted at first, but the third version was the one that I liked the most and never heard before. I ended up downloading the third version of the song.
    4. See the name of title and artist on the right hand side and on your mouse, click only on the right side
    5. A square will show up: open, save or cancel. Click on save.
    6. Click on save again
    7. Then in your files, copy and paste from downloads to my music-another way to save the song.
    8. Copy and paste from my music to the mp3 files. Then the song should be downloaded onto your mp3 device.
    I’ve heard from a good friend of mine from China, named Young that the Korean language is hard to learn. Learning, writing and singing in Korean was intriguing and it made me devote my time wisely. My very first Korean word that I learned sometime in February 2011 was “bo” meaning look. I have three major styles of learning that I conducted in order to learn the singing part of the song “Don’t Don” by Super Junior, which is observation, writing and repetition. For observation, that is when I found the song that I like and while I’m on Youtube, I collect ideas while looking at the music video and listening to the lyrics and studying the beat-the tempo of the song. The reason why I use observation is just to become familiar with the song. The next style of learning is the writing style. I used two ways for organization: color-code and highlighting. It’s a good way of organization. Plus, it has always been a habit of mine since elementary school. Reading the language (the Romanization) is the next step along with writing. Since I was quite new to the Korean language, I wrote myself lots of clues for me to learn quickly:
    1. A=ah 6. Ui=ii
    2. U=ugh 7. Eo=the e is silent, so its ooh
    3. I=ee 8. Eu=ew like in the word-new
    4. E=aye
    5. O=ooh
    That is what I created to help me pronounce Korean words. These vowels are mostly used in the song Super Junior-Don’t Don. Memorization is the next step for writing if I will be speaking and singing. Memorization takes up most time. This is why I devoted my time to learn Korean for the song. This is probably also why I learned the song so quickly. Learning, writing and speaking the Korean language was all geared toward within the multiple styles of learning.
    Super Junior (a male KPop group) have 16 members. That is why they are called “Super” Junior. The group debuted in 2005. They now have four albums out with their hit single: “Sorry Sorry.” On that same album, I have four favorites:
    1. Don’t Don
    2. Bonamana
    3. Sorry Sorry
    4. Boom Boom
    I have more KPop favorites on my channel. Listed below are my top favorites in general:
    1. Seo Taiji-T’ik T’ak
    2. Seo Taiji-Internet War
    3. Hyun_Ah (from 4 Minute)-Change
    4. 2NE1-Don’t Stop the Music
    5. 2NE1-Please Don’t Go
    Earlier, I stated that by me learning Korean, I have to follow the style of learning tools. So, I conducted an experiment: to see how long it took me to learn Korean from a specific KPop group-Super Junior-Don’t Don. I was actually going to do a singing and dancing cover to this song before I came up with this experiment. Then, within the next few days later, I came up the experiment. It “boosted up” my confidence. I was actually going to start filming on Thursday night on 3-31-2011. I thought of filming on Thursday night because earlier that day, I was going to get my hair done. Then, I thought why not film early since I was quite hyper about this idea at that time on 3-27-2011. It was better for me to do my hair myself and then start filming. It took me five or seven times for me to film all the way through. What I did was that I sang and danced in Korean. It was fun conducting the experiment. The people on Youtube didn’t know until I told some that I was recording for class. I didn’t tell all. Just about two or three people know. Before I got started, I used the learning style tools to follow.
    First, I found a Youtube friend named “Littlephuong95.” Phuong wrote out the lyrics and posted it on Youtube about a few years ago. I made sure that I credited Phuong because I thought that was the right thing to do. After writing down the lyrics in Romanization form (the second Korean way of writing), I went back to studying for 10 days to get most of the lyrics down pact. It took me 10 days to learn Krean from scratch. I was shocked and proud of myself that I’ve gotten that far.
    As a result: In the first 48 hours, I had about 85 views. About 20 views came from me. Already, there were 3 likes and 1 dislike. I also have 1 favorite from a guy that I accepted as a friend on Youtube. He also liked and comment on this video. To get more views, rates and comments, I posted my video on the homepage bulletin. I then went to the address book that you will find in inbox. That way, I composed my video to about 700 of my friends. I just found out to do that recently that I didn’t know that existed. I knew that the address book existed, but I never really went much further.

    The Romanization can be different. Below are the lyrics in Romanization form by littlephoung95:
    Introduction: You! Instruments play only.
    Verse 1: Idaero kkeuchimyeon

    Beorijima
    Super Junior!! End of song.
    This is the English translation:
    Introduction: You!! Just music play instruments.
    Verse 1: If this is the end, if there’s not another chance
    I’m gonna’ tell you that you’re all wrong
    All you people who can’t laugh in this comedic world, go away.
    Refrain: Money! Money! Everything in this world is about money,
    You! That’s stuck in a circle, what is your mind?
    I beg you to look around you, you can see the desire in one’s eyes
    Stop bangin’ my head, my eye’s gone red
    Rap 1: The world is mine
    I just happened to grab my opportunity, I’m the way of this world
    When I was waiting for those to become happy a little sooner than others
    There’s no consideration for the weak
    Verse 2 (short): Even if you burn up all the fireworks inside me
    I can never give up;
    It’s not for them, but for the children of our future.
    Henry, one of Super Junior group members plays his violin solo.
    Rap 2 (short): Don’t be so disappointed, it’s not me!
    It’s the world that made you like that
    Rap 3: Everything that I’ve wanted, I always get;
    even the world may turn its back on me
    I close my eyes and ears;
    I’m going to make them dizzy;
    I just need an okay head and some money
    Verse 3: Even though you burned up all the fireworks inside me;
    I want to look out after you;
    Its for my kids who are to go
    Living in this world
    The last refrain: Don’t.. Don’t..Let’s stop now and take off your
    Hypocrite mask
    What is your mind
    Free yourself! From your hypocrisy and from your fake mask
    Everyone’s waiting
    Stop bangin’ my head, my eyes gone red
    Throw it away! Your hypocrisy and your mask
    Super Junior!! End of song.
    I am certainly glad that I found Korean Pop music. Within KPop, there is such variety in one category: such as 4 Minute, Super Junior, SHINee, and more. Since I enjoy world music with Korean Pop as its top, I am also glad to be an international viewer on Youtube.

    Just what kind of school would allow you to hand in an essay like this? A kindergarten?

    :faint: No no silly. im a Junior in College taking a Senior level class. lol For our Literacy Research Project paper, we had to think of something to do research on. I choose to do Korea with their language and Youtube together-just to widen my search thats why its long. ask yourself this question: does Youtube and learning Korean change the way we write?? does something change the way we write has been asked in class most frequently. Plus, you know that video i made me singing and dancing in Korean? that is tied in with this essay and for the presentation about what we learned and good stuff like that. My bad...i should of had explained it b4 posting. My fault. its okay though.

    The topic is ok, but I'm sorry to say, the way this was written is absolutely terrible. I mean, it's ok to post it online on a forum, but to hand it in as a serious essay in a college class? :huh:

    I went to University for 4 years, and maybe I wasn't even all that good at writing essays, but I certainly know what an essay on the academic level should look like. And this is not even close. I mean wtf :lol:

    I usually don't like giving criticism without any constructive suggestions on how to make it better, but I honestly don't know where to start here.

    I'm sorry if this was a bit harsh, but I was just dumbstruck with the fact that any college professor would accept this. That's just my opinion, somebody please tell me if I'm wrong. :lol:

    i have language and speech impairment. that means that my hearing affected the way i talk ever since i was little; about 2yrs old. im 22yrs old and i get this all the time to where that when people guess my age, they think that im 16. lol that also means that im slow. im also a slow thinker. it takes me a while to come up with stuff. Thats y i wrote this paper early than expected just to get in to that habit and i can pick up the tempo. and i tend to mumble too. When i hear myself talk as i talk, i sound perfectly normal. as i were to listen to me talk like on a tape recorder or video thats when i mumble and dont make sense sometimes.
