But there's no way in hell SIB is worse than that. Sure, SIB may compete with Numb and SOTD for LP's worst song, but you really believe that this is better? If so, I'm not sure what that says about your taste in music.

 

Just heard the unplugged version. That shit is just as bad!

 

Both are incredibly lame and generally bad imo, but SIB takes itself too seriously, whereas Friday is fun and catchy.

 

I dunno, the only bad thing about SIB is the lyrics. The rest of the song is actually pretty awesome if you ask me. I would say that Friday not only has bad lyrics, but it has your every day pop/sythny instrumentation.

And I'm sorry, singing anything about human emotion is better than reciting the days of the week.

you have to step outside of your fandom for LP in order to see his point.

one is a pop song by a 13 year old that's reasonably catchy, and has appropriate subject matter for someone of that age. the other is a song by some 30 something millionaires about not fitting in and shit.

i mean, really.

Come on now, they were in their 20's when they made the song, and they were still pretty inexperienced and were facing loads of pressure from their label. I also wouldn't say they had quite "made it" yet either. Furthermore, SIB in particular got rehashed a lot by Don Gilmore. I would say under those circumstances I can't blame the band too much. Now, if they made a song like Somewhere I Belong in their next album, then I won't argue.

Don't get me wrong, Somewhere I Belong has horrendous lyrics, I just think Friday is that much worse.

You can't blame Rebecca Black for this song either, seeing as she had even less part in writing it (as far as I'm aware, none). But as far as the songs go, Friday has every day synthy pop instrumentation sure: but SIB has instrumentation weirdly similar to In The End and most other popular nu-metal ballady songs at that stage. I am also of the opinion that by 20 you should be mature enough to not STILL be butthurt about not fitting in when you were 14.
