Linkin Park will never not be mainstream. So all of there records will follow suit. That doesn't define their sound, though.
I don't think Linkin Park think about their music in terms of whether or not it sounds 'mainstream'. ;" They've always been a band that can hold their own when working in the studio, even before signing to Warner, and they've worked hard to minimise whatever interference they might get from their label while working on their art.
Linkin Park have always had a great pop sensibility. They might flirt with unorthodox song structures and sounds occasionally, but, at their core, they are very much a pop band. These guys can probably shit out catchy three-minute radio anthems in their sleep.
I'm sure fans would be devastated if LP got sued for breach of contract for leaving Warner Bros. That's part sarcasm as well. I'm pretty sure if LP got sued for breaching a contract they would be able to pay Warner Bros whatever they were demanding, it's not like they're not mainstream to begin with and don't earn enough money. I like how some bands complain about the brands they originally signed up with; the fact that Warner Bros made them change their name from Hybrid Theory to Linkin Park (commercialism for you) and now they're watering their music, and apparently have been doing it for quite a well. I really don't see a band like NIN on Video Hits, but you had to stay up late and watch Rage on the ABC to see the good stuff, but I do see bands like Nickleback and Linkin Park on it. I mean, there's only so much shit one can take. In my opinion, if they didn't want all above happening to them and whatever goes behind the scenes with the record company, I reiterate, be like many other artists and have their own record label after being screwed around by record companies. I'm pretty sure The White Stripes/The Raconteurs were with Virgin before Jack White ripped up the contract and created Third Man Records for The Dead Weather project. Anything that appears on Billboard is instantly mainstream for all Billboard cares about is ranking mainstream artists. By the way, that statement was bolded for truth. And all this teenie bopper crap about how Linkin Park is so ... "awesum 4 bein heavy metal" is trollop. They have elements of everything that's popularised, but heavy metal.
I'm sorry but you're kidding right? I'm not trying to be mean, and I sure as hell don't agree with os neutral making the same thread 3 times, but Warner Brothers did NOT make Hybrid Theory change their name to Linkin Park so that they could sell more records. That is a myth. They changed their name because they were getting sued by a band by the name of Hybrid, because their name was too similar. This is LP History 101. The Lincoln Park name came because they passed by a park every day on their way to the studio in Santa Monica that was called Lincoln Park (the name of the park has since been changed). Mike changed the spelling so that they could have the domain name cheaper (lincolnpark.com was WAY too expensive for them at the time), and to give the band a unique spelling that was instantly memorable so that when people heard about them at a show they could go home and visit their website cause it was easy to remember. It wasn't changed to put them closer to "limp bizkit" like some people believe.
Okay so I didn't have all the facts on that note. I just remember being told eons ago when I was first a fan that they were forced to change their name due to WBs.
I've always wanted somebody who thinks Linkin Park is now but was not before mainstream to explain the success of In The End to me.
When it comes down to it, Linkin Park was a band that had mainstream success, but in any case I wouldn't really consider them to be mainstream. That's how I feel about it, anyway.
Yeah, but the band also has been battling the 'LP CHANGED THEIR SPELLING TO BE CLOSER TO LIMP BIZKIT ON THE CD RACK' rumor for 10 years. It's just a persistent rumor that wont go away .
People will always make up statistics that they don't know. I once heard that facts are stubborn things, but statistics are more pliable. Anyways , people will always put down what they dont like or understand. Unfortunately, that's human nature.
