In a recent radio interview with 94.5 The Buzz, Mike Shinoda has revealed that Linkin Park have booked studio time immediately after their final shows on the North American tour to begin writing the follow up to A Thousand Suns. Mike also indicated that there could be a significant gap in time between the band's next North American tour.

So does this mean the fifth Linkin Park album could be coming sooner than we think? Does the indication of the last North American tour for the near future mean no Projekt Revolution this year? Check out our forums and join in on the discussions!

I enjoyed this interview a lot. I liked the discussion about fans finally letting ATS grow on them, etc. I think we sort of knew they were recording after this tour already but it's nice to hear it confirmed by Mike. Hopefully a mid 2012 release happens.

And apparently they thought for a while that Chester had the Swine Flu? lolwut.

I'd be happy if LP was a normal band who spends maybe two months in the studio and release the album 6 months or so later. But this could come out anytime from mid-2012 to early 2013. Or even later.

If they focus on Linkin Park this time and not other ventures, maybe it will come earlier.

I've always thought that LP wanted to release albums a lot quicker, as they've signaled a desire to do so since MTM. The only thing that made ATS take so long was the fact they completely deconstructed their sound, and had some stressful moments during writing. Assuming this writing process goes smoother, it should take half the time.

If there was a new album in 2012, I would be ecstatic. I'm not going to get my hopes up though.

    Good point.

It would also go faster if for a change they wouldn't be so opposed to the idea of using pre-made demos to work with. I'm sure they have hundreds.

It'll still be 3 or 4 years before anything comes out.

    Calling it.

    aww beat me to it.

LP says they're gonna make it faster every year since like... Meteora... They always go into experimental mode and then fall through a time warp.

Yeah. But between Meteora and MTM, and between MTM and ATS, they were doing lots of other stuff, and from memory the gap between Meteora and MTM was the one where they did the most outside of the band and that was also the longest. It pretty much comes down to how much attention they focus onto Linkin Park, and maybe giving side projects, remix albums, art exhibitions etc a rest. Apparently they don't feel the need for side projects as much anymore, so there's that. I'm not taking what they say as the gospel truth but I'm not saying they won't live up to it at all either.

I think studio time means they are serious about a quick album.. usually its the writing process that takes forever, but I thought it was really good news when they were writing music on this current tour. Yeah... its a possibility that this could be another process that takes years and years but this isnt the mid 20's LP anymore.. they know they are still in their prime and its great to see them focused on more music.

Great news! Just hope LP can get the next album out sooner rather then later. A Thousand Suns was one awesome album and it left me wanting more. After an album like ATS I really can't help but wonder whats next?
