It seems that Linkin Park bassist Dave Phoenix Farrell has had a new custom Ztar made for him by Starr Labs. The choice of the Z6X was notably influenced by Pendulum member Rob Swire who performs with a Z6SX. Linkin Park are currently on tour with Pendulum. Check out the blog post and pics below:

"Two weeks ago we received a call from one of Linkin Park's guitar techs inquiring about the Ztar Rob Swire of Pendulum performs with (a Z6SX). A few phone calls later and we're tasked to make Phoenix, Linkin Park's bassist, a Ztar Z6X ! Here is the resulting instrument:"

Excuse my ignorance but is that a Digital Bass guitar? If so, would it be able to replace the triggers he uses for Blackout live and be an inclination that Linkin Park are planning to be a more electronical band in the future?

Yeah that's exactly what I thought. It seems like an awesome idea. I'd love to see Brad do something similar. Since he's tired of guitar riffs this could be a good alternative. I've been saying this forever! Brad should plug his guitar into so many effects and play crazy fast shredding guitars with a WFTE like piece.

    cool stuff

PS: speaking of guitars, why does Chester hold up his guitar during Iridescent, even when he only uses it after the bridge? Wouldn't it be cooler if he grab the guitar after bridge like during SOTD?

Yep. It's a midi-controller, meaning that Phoenix can literally program whatever sounds/samples he wants on that guitar...allowing him to in theory perform some very complex synth parts.

    Fucking awesome.

I don't know about anyone else, but I for one would LOVE for Linkin Park to take a more electronic approach to their music. It would only feel natural after A Thousand Suns. I'm not saying I want a thousand suns two but more as a extension of the electronics that were used in that album, more songs like Jornada Del Muerto and Blackout and Burning in the Skies and Robot Boy. Hell, I'd love a song that has nothing but electronic instruments, including heavily altered vocals.

Really hope they take a step to the side and make some Pendelum-InnerPartySystem-PostalService-Muse types of music.

Everyone is making electronic music recently. I wouldn't be surprised the next LP album goes even further than that..
    That looks cool.

Yeah, Phoenix would look badass using a Ztar for "Blackout". :)

Since it's a controller, yeah, it's capable of playing any sounds. A Ztar beats the shit out of your average keyboard controller (as Swire explains in this video), though, hence its expensive price

I'm certain Rob Swire has started a trend.

It looks awesome. If Starr Labs' prices wern't so expensive, I'd order myself one. All of those buttons are MIDI assignable so it's like having a big fuck off MIDI controller as apposed to a guitar.

I'm not the biggest fan of the electronic music, and ATS sounds more sterile compared to organic sound that M2M has...

There's nothing not organic about the sound on ATS though. No one complains about guitar effects even though that's not the natural noise you get from a guitar, however alot of people seem to be really sketchy when it comes to using synthesizers to create sounds and effects. I guess it's a question of allowing people the time to recognise how electronic-influenced music is the future, synthesizers or not, because that special ever-evolving relationship that music and technology have isn't going to halt any time soon.
