Its a difficult one this, it seems to like ATS you gotta give it a good few listens. There's only one other friend of mine who loves it as much as me, and i've forced my friends to like it lol. In terms of the general public, it seems no one really cares as much about them anymore, they loved HT and maybe Meteora but grew out of it and either got into most likely Metal or more hardcore bands. So fat chance there gonna like MTM or ATS. I reckon if you have an open mind and like all kinds of music, I honestly can't see how you can't like this album, I really mean that. It's so diverse, good catchy songs and great sound. I'll just post here some funny quotes from the Download festival facebook page when they got announced as a headliner, bare in mind it is a "rock/hardcore metal festival" but I class these kind of people as general public/old LP fans etc: " LP healdining? seriosuly...i mean fair enough if they were 2nd stage etc but main stage headlining? thats just bullshit. get fuckign MACHINE HEAD on their" "Nones really realises how big Linkin park are. They were amazin hybris and meteora are the best albums ever and they were the first band i ever got into. Sure now they are shit because they have lost there way but jesus they were fuckin brilliant years ago. I cant wait to be rockin out to some of the Linkin Park classics!! XD" "Why Linkin Park? They're just pop now - laaaame. As for Rob Zombie - YAY" "This is a shame! Linkin Park IS NOT A ROCK BAND ANYMORE! IS NOT HARD ROCK, IS NOT EVEN ROCK! Just some elctro-pop bullshit. They belong to other kind of festival but not Download, what a shame because I love download festival as a ROCK FESTIVAL" "linkin park are aload of crap.....the catalyst is one of the worst albums ive let my ears be abused by....sonisphere it is!!!!" That last one is hilarious
Haha hilarious quotes dude! To be completely honest, its what I've said before: In some peoples eyes It isn't "cool" to like LP any more. Its cool to like Foo Fighters, Muse or even Lady Gaga but LP seem to have been sidestepped due to a misconception of them going "pop" or "techno"... Its just a casual fans usual response on LP since MTM. Imo, ATS is a flawed masterpiece that requires a few listens to appreciate its breakthrough sound. Its just most people don't want to give them a chance anymore.
I agree that if you like all kinds of music you'll probably enjoy ATS. My favorite artists are David Bowie, Prince, Depeche Mode, The Beatles, Michael Jackson and Roxy Music. Of course, I guess that music fits really well with Linkin Park these days. I got into Linkin Park when I was 11 years old, and when Minutes to Midnight came out I was 17 and felt embarrassed by it. Now I am 21, and while M2M isn't my favorite, I do have a lot more respect for it and enjoy it more. ATS, in my opinion, is a perfect record(although it could have been longer but in my opinion that doesn't take away from it's brilliance). Some of these songs are the greatest they've ever written. Burning In The Skies, Waiting For The End, Blackout, and Iridescent are LP at the top of their game, seriously, and I think they're only going to gain fans, not lose them. ATS shows them kicking up their songwriting ability like crazy. Their lyrics have evolved and the music is professional and experienced. I'm so excited to hear whatever they put out next! Good thread! I enjoyed reading through it.
the reason they're losing fans is because the people who only likes theyre older music, are truly just fans of nu-metal or rap/rock, not fans of the band Linkin Park who are about making a new style and a fresh sound.
To everyone who says LP is gaining or losing fans: [CITATION NEEDED] None of you actually know that. Anecdotes are not evidence.
Well the main this is that boards like this contain of people who love Linkin Park, so basically it's expected that you like the album. Most of the people I know IRL aren't diehard LP fans, but they own a few of their albums. But then all I hear of them now whenever I mention LP is that they hate them now just because of the new album. That disappoints me, mainly because that there is way more songs by LP other than just ATS, but they refuse to listen to any of it now. It's good for bands to reach out to different audiences and try new styles. Just because they made a different style album doesn't mean that they're gonna stick to that style from now on.
Haters are gonna hate. I, for one, don't understand why people can't realize the greatness of this album. Their loss, really.
LP do what they do for a sense of artistic fulfillment; if "A Thousand Suns" isn't your kind of thing, well, the next album they make may well sound nothing like that one, so, yeah, people shouldn't get stuck on one album.
Mm, it's still very much Linkin Park. Some of the songs on "Midnight" resembled songs on "Meteora" and some of the songs on "A Thousand Suns" aren't far from "Midnight".
Exactly that. See, the haters are gonna hate on all the songs that they dislike and not care about the good ones anymore. Haters gonna hate.
Really? I find it vastly different. MTM was very mellow which is why it was hated, because LP was just heavy guitars and rap before hand. ATS I find is a whole new style of music, much more electronic and different structural approach with the interludes. Theres always something that people will hate about their new stuff, whether it's "mellow" or "too electronic", reason simply because there core fanbase consisted of Nu-metal fans. So there either narrow minded and can't accept change, OR (and I hate to judge people but I just feel this is very unlikely) they just don't like the albums.
M2M wasn't vastly hated. It was actually fairly well done. Though hear me out on this - Just think, if M2M and ATS were the first albums made, and THEN they made Meteora and HT, then Meteora and HT would be the ones hated on instead of ATS.
It got old after Hybrid Theory. Breaking the Habit and Easier to Run were the only good thing about Meteora. That's how old it got for me at least. I love Hybrid Theory with a passion(except for One Step Closer) and there is no album like it. It has its own unique sound and signature very much like ATS. I think ATS has way more in common with Hybrid Theory than most people seem to realize. ATS topped HT for me though. LP at their best. A near masterpiece(cause there's no such thing as a masterpiece)
Well that is true, ATS is a lot like HT in multiple ways. Plus, you know, there's a bunch of other songs by LP out there. There's not JUST the four albums. That's the pruoblem is that people who don't really get involved with LP think that there is only just four albums. So they think there's not much of a choice, when actually there's a huge choice that they don't care to go into.
All the albums are pretty different from each other, yeah. But being Linkin Park albums, there are still underlying similarities. I know it's just so easy to say "they're a whole different band on 'A Thousand Suns'", but there are moments that will remind you of their earlier works. Same with every Linkin Park release.
Wretches and Kings kinda reminds me of past times in a way. Iridescent & The Messenger are two of my faves, actually. First time I ever heard the messenger, I heard that guitar in the beginning, and started bawling. Didn't even know what the song was about. Just cried.
Casual fans don't care about the band, they think the band is their slaves (they want the band to be this and that and identify them like they really know them). On youtube, someone said this: -"How could they love the band who doesn't care about them anymore?" <= this could prove that he only think about himself. So, it just matter how people think about LP. If they think about them, care for them, they will know and accept ATS even they like it or not. If they only think about themselves, only another HT or Meteora could satisfy them. I think I'm belong to the wierdo-list. I began listening to LP from MTM->HT, they I realize that I like MTM more than M and HT . I think the first experience with the band is very important for how you see them in the future.
The one that got me into LP is the "Hybrid" in Hybrid Theory. The songs are catchy, yes, but the replay value for me is on the mixing of rock, hip-hop and electronica. I like artists that mix up genres/styles/instruments. LP has brought something fresh into the radio, but they really have some quality music deeper in their catalog. So as long as they're still making music that interests me, I'm fine. I don't care if it's rock, metal or pop. I like the direction LP took in making ATS. Most rock (not metal) bands nowadays take the "the heavier, the better" approach in music--death metal vocals, severely downtuned and distorted guitars or using double peds. It's easy to gain fans (rock or metal fans) using that approach, especially teen metal fans. So I really thank LP for taking the "artsy" direction in their music.
