I mean, if In The End and Numb are nu-metal songs, then LP is the best in that they really made a super-accessible nu-metal sound that appealed to tons of people. Not everyone knows a song from all the other bands, but who doesn't know in the end?
True. I don't know if I consider Numb to be exactly "nu metal" though. More like a harder electronic pop rock song but yeah, I agree.
Nothing nu metal about that song imo. I just think it sounds like alt rock with melancholy pop infuences. I am not big on genres and labels though, I just like what I like.
I think its kinda funny when people say LP went too poppy when they never listened to THP. Just met some of these people
You're right on the money. Some people make an assumption of what their new music is like and how it's made without even being exposed to it. It's stupidly ironic. It's kind of like how people think they know certain celebrities but all their opinions and impressions are based on what the media feeds them. I mean, if 100 people write articles and publications about you, how much do you think is going to be true? But I digress.
More like (and I quote from The Catalyst music video): "Hybrid Theory was so much better...I can't believe In The End and this song was popular in 8th grade. Only the girls like this song. They're JB fans too." So...from this evidence we can decisively conclude that everyone who likes only old Linkin Park is a narrow-minded misogynist.
Ehhh, Living Things was a lot of pop elements too (well, LPs whole discography tbh) With BID and CoG they had also two big hits over here. Burn It Down was on #2 of the german charts.
BUT THE OUTRO TO PAPERCUT!!!!!!!!!! PROGRESSIVE!!!!!!! Living Things wasn't nearly as poppy as HT or Meteora though Michele, especially with songs like Until It Breaks.
Like you guys said, it's also stupidly ironic that the first two albums were the most clean and produced up records. I have nothing against those albums but they were mainstream radio staples for a reason.
Neither of them touched the enduring global success of songs like "Numb" or "In The End". It's the singles from "Hybrid Theory" or "Meteora" that are most fondly remembered at large. LP were a massive pop sensation right out of the gate. Anyone who claims they "went pop" at some later point can fuck off.
I'll be the first to admit that HT and Meteora are poppy, but honestly, aside from UIB, I think LT is a lot poppier. Absolutely nothing wrong with that, but there's nothing poppier in LP's discography than the opening 5/6 songs of LT. UIB and even Victimized are exceptions, but I'd argue that songs like Forgotten and CFTE on HT and HTF and Nobody's Listening on Meteora are as "alternative" as those two (well, maybe not UIB, but you get the point ). I still absolutely love LT though so there's nothing wrong with that.
