Noisey has just published an intricate and in depth article on Mike Shinoda about his familial history, his schooling, the history of Linkin Park, and the re-emerging of Fort Minor. It is a telling tale of why Fort Minor and Linkin Park are who they are. The final closing lines of the article best sum up the story:

The story unfolds by explaining Mike's familial background as a Japanese-American and the meaning behind his song, "Kenji", where Mike identifies the history of Japanese Internment camps and how it all affected his own childhood.

These moments were brought out in Mike's solo project Fort Minor and his emotions became clear in his words:

Mike continues and entails Linkin Park's early days. The genre identification and labelling that was given to the band by mainstream listeners early on had placed pretenses on the band that would follow and push the band to continuously adapt and evolve their sound in the years since Hybrid Theory.

Well...crap. Not even on purpose, this entire interview basically reads exactly like my interview with Mike which is going up tomorrow on AltWire (we did the interview over the weekend, but it was embargoed till tomorrow). He talked about the same things (the effect of FM on his confidence...him growing up mixed race etc).

Oh well, for those who like FM interviews, what's one more right?

Well to be honest, i think your interviews are mostly easier to read.

This is also good, but i wait for tomorrow too :)

Thank you! Yeah when I transcribe interviews or type up the answers, I generally like to make sure they are formatted in a way that it's easy to follow and not painfully long run-on sentences. Especially when some artists take 5 minutes to answer a question and their one answer takes up 300-500 words .

Damn. Now I feel awkward thinking that Noisey's interview was one terrific read  I'm sure yours will be too though. :rastamike:

But damn, that bit about the original HT logo being rejected for being "too Asian"!?! Fuck me....

One interview we did was like 2 pages (literally, it said "page 1, page 2") because the guy spent 5 minutes a question. The call was 40 minutes long and the end result over 4000 words.

Absurdly well written piece, and a shitload of info on Mike's background I didn't know.

I love Noisey but their writers look ridiculous laying on the praise this thick. Calling "Meteora" "sophisticated" might be a step too far.

Yeah, darn those writers having their own opinions.

Do we have to do this Meteora hate thing everywhere? It's really tired.

    ....

Also, I thought that was a great read. Really well written and insightful.

It's just that, the rest of the time, I'm pretty sure they do dislike "Meteora" (and LP in general) but, conveniently, when Shinoda swings around, that all goes under the carpet. That's what I mean.

Fine, each writer to their own ... but the big reveal piece for "The Hunting Party" and this Fort Minor article are literally the only ones I've ever seen on Noisey that don't paint Linkin Park in a bad light, subtly or otherwise. Unless you also count this one.

You need to remind yourself, though, that Noisey does have different writers, and because of that, you're gonna get different articles, different opinions etc. They represent Noisey, sure, but they all still have their own opinions so, you kind of need to differentiate on writer-level in that sense. I see news sites more as a platform rather than an "entity".

Not gonna pretend that I know of what they've said on Noisey about LP or anything related in the past, but yeah.
