First off, I am not saying that record sales make or break the band. I am just asking a question out of curiosity as to how well you guys think LP could sale. It's just a for fun kind of thing. So anyways, do you think LP will ever have another platinum album here in the states?

EDIT: Blackee brought up how music keeps selling over time, so I just wanted to clarify what I meant when I posted this thread. I'm talking about platinum within 1-1.5 years of the album release.

With album sales on the decline due to streaming and illegal downloading. It's a no for me. Maybe a gold album, but a platinum or even a diamond is out of the question. However, It'd be nice to see that happen rather than another album by all the Kanyes, Taylor Swifts, Beyonces, and Lady Gagas.

This guy touches up on the subject while he also hates on Taylor Swift and her whole Spotify complaint.

Yeah, Taylor is too stupid to realize how overpaid she is and streaming is meant to promote her music. In fact the smaller music acts should get some payment from sites like Spotify and Pandora than the big guns, especially the ones I don't like.

You know music keeps selling over time right? Like ATS isjust under Platinum in the US. Especially with bands like Linkin Park where they're always "well known" despite their obvious popularity drop, people keep buying albums over time.

    Just might take years.

your wording is weird too since a Diamond is 10 times platinum

I know a platinum and diamond are both different in terms of how many copies an album sold/shipped nationwide, but the only act that could get another diamond record is Adele.

No, no album will ever go platinum again, unless there's a redefinition or something crazy in the industry happens. Last year the only thing that went platinum (I believe, could be wrong) was the frozen soundtrack. No artist, not the big acts, not anyone hit platinum.

It would have to be an album full of Shadow of the Days and Burn it Downs.

Exactly. The day Linkin Park has another platinum record within a year is probably the same day I'd give up on the band, unless it's some true magnum opus that redefines the industry like others have mentioned.

Not in the US. Maybe in germany, but not in the US. I think they are much bigger here in Europe than in 'MERICAAAA!

200.000 sales make a platinum album in Germany. That's definitely easier even if you consider the difference in their music industries' overall size.

Like I said, the content doesn't matter. The artist doesn't matter. Nothing sells platinum anymore. If Beyonce or Miley or anyone else can't do it, Linkin Park definitely can't. Regardless of how many Transformer themes they make.

"1989" went Platinum recently, I believe, but, otherwise, you're right -- it's just the changing of the times, and whether or not people decide to pay for music today has nearly nothing to do with the quality of anyone's output.

Yep. In the video I posted ,the guy mentions that 1989 was the only album that went Platinum in 2014, while 50 went Platinum in 2004.

I'm going to say just one, which could be even years, but I think it will be their final album to be honest. All of linkin park fans will support it and buy it and "possibly, but uncertain" maybe make platinum.

Even then I would say it's like a 10% chance

If many mainstream artists can barely get Gold records, I highly doubt LP will get platinum. Their last platinum record was the "Burn It Down" single.

I am sure not all Linkin Park Fans would buy it , i can see many people starting downloading and stop supporting artists. Why buying if you have Spotify? Sadly :(

Basically, the emotional and/or social value in ownership. If you can encourage and foster that, you can convince a buyer to purchase.
