I think a lot of bands release 'Greatest Hits' albums as nothing more than a way to snatch money out the pockets of the superfans that can't have CD's missing from their collection.

Also, with so many different genres and styles from HT - THP, the album wouldn't really have any kind of flow and/or cohesion IMO, which wouldn't do the songs justice

Don't bands usually release Greatest Hits towards the end of their careers?

Not necessarily. Green Day, the Offspring, and Red Hot Chili Peppers all released popular albums long after they put out Greatest Hit compilations.

Record labels often do it to squeeze more $$$ out of a fan base. Sometimes a band can wrangle it to fulfill a record contract. There really isn't any need for it as far as LP are concerned.

"Greatest Hits" albums normally happens when a band breaks up, on a decline, or when their deals are expired from their old label and move to another.

At least we'd get a b-side or two.

Hard to have a Greatest Hits album when all your songs suck! :shinado: :kappa:

Jokes aside, I'm glad they haven't released one. Record labels that constantly pump out Greatest Hits albums too milk all money possible from stupid fans really piss me off.

I'm glad they haven't. The entire album would be made up of the What I've Done's and Numbs of their career, inherently making an entirely dull collection.

Greatest Hits albums are usually either record label decisions, or a band's "we have one release left on our contract and this fulfills it" decision. Labels usually retain the rights to a band's music that was released during their time with them too, so it can be a way to continue making money off a band after they leave. This happened with Guns N' Roses' greatest hits CD, and Universal has been milking the KISS catalog for well over 10 years with various compilations even though they left the label in like 2002. Regardless, it's usually something that happens when the band/label relationship is over or not the best, or when a band/label is just trying to make money. LP/Warner aren't really in either position, hence no Greatest Hits-type compilation.

It's quite remarkable, that Linkin Park didn't released a "Greatest Hits" Album yet. I can remember back in the days, how many people predict that they will release 1 pretty soon, because of the fact, that they released a remix album, right after their debut album or because of Collision Course - another "recycling" record...except for the 2 Live records, additional^^. There were quite a lot people making jokes about that. But this is just one thing, how the band disabused all the critics.

Personally, i can't see any necessity right here for a GH record.

Greatest hits albums often don't flow.

and to answer OPs question, maybe they don't want to?

I'm happy they haven't. Unless, of course, we got one or two new songs from it.
