It's sad that Weird Al said that this was probably his last album. He said he'll stick to singles now.
I think it's for the best. By restricting himself to singles only he'll be able to make parodies of newer songs quicker, and thus whatever he does will feel more relevant and 'current'. When he does albums, he has to pick from songs that have already been parodied to death by the time he releases the album.
I agree. A singles-based approach works best considering the nature of Weird Al Yankovic's work. This "Mandatory Fun" album cycle has its merits, though! We've gotten a concentrated dose of new Weird Al songs and parodies, and it feels like it's been a while since that last happened which makes us all appreciate it more.
This and the fact that we could be expecting a "Weird Al" Yankovic track dropping at any time, in any place without prior expectation. He has the ability to pull of multiple Beyonces in the future!
