Yes, lots of bands do it. Linkin park had burn it down completely mixed in March of 2012 and there was songs in lptvs that were still being written and finished at the beginning of April.
I doubt he was specifically speaking about the album, question said "new music". They've said before they're not really into collaborations within their studio albums. We know for certain there is the song for Neon Future and also the question mark is still on in the TF4 track. So I'm not really worried at all.
