How come the show didn't get its own news post? I hope that the other members of Linkin Park are still working on their new music despite Chester's temporary absence. Maybe they're making instrumental music or maybe they're all helping out with scratch vocals
The day it happened, I for one didn't know it happened. I added the show into this thread since it was related news to the article.
Glad you guys enjoy the videos. I try and film any special thing I can for all you guys out there that can't be there. Sorry they aren't zoomed in more. I filmed this with my iPhone since cameras were not allowed inside the venue.
That was extremely moving when Mike spoke about Chester's recuperation from alcohol and the impact it has on the entire band. And is it just me or does Chester sound more on-key with these songs live than he has since Rolling in the Deep?
Maybe with Chester being occupied by STP, the other members of LP could convince vocals from other sources (Dave, Brad?)
Yeah, it'll just be interesting to see what happens with the new music if Chester's not there for a little while. I suppose that's what happened with Linkin Park's fourth album as well
^Chester wasn't around for a while when they were making ATS? Is that what they have been doing through the last three albums?
IIRC, "Out Of Ashes" was released in late 2009 and Dead By Sunrise toured for a little while to promote it. Some of that coincided with Linkin Park shows where both bands would play the same events and things. Not sure how long that album took to record, though
Oh yeah, sure. It's just, from the LPTV-s, it seemed like Chester was there all the time, so I didn't think of him working with DBS.
Not really a fan of the single approach, but it does give Chester (an STP) some breathing space. We'll see how it goes. The live performances have been quite good as well so could turn into something pretty awesome.
I've maintained for years that Chester sounds better when he's singing other people's stuff. Don't know why that is, but he's always done an awesome job with Bucket of Weenies, Camp Freddy, and other stuff like that. I wouldn't point to Rolling in the Deep as the greatest example though. Chester sounded VERY strained on both performances of it.
Additional inspiration might be a factor. It's not the same the excitement of singing other people's stuff every once in a while, to singing the same songs you've sang over the past 10 years. Also, Tours can wear people out a bit and need a few days to fully recover (in terms of vocal cords). That's just my 2 cents.
Yeah, it's just my guess. Maybe he worked on both projects at the same time and maybe he can do that now as well! It's only when I hear Chester sing covers that it hits me, how he has a fucking impressive voice! The rest of the time, I just don't feel that
Chester definitely has an awesome 'rock' voice and he uses it very well with STP, Camp Freddy and B.O.W. back in the day. Or just covers in general in the past from other stuff. This show was awesome. I don't think this will really create time away from LP with Chester, because he recently tweeted he couldn't wait to get back to LA to make new LP music and new STP music. They're not really far away from each other, and Chester usually does most of his work on LP's album later on in the process, when it comes time to finalize lyrics and vocals. Mike has been singing on demos for pretty much as long as I can remember, then Chester just eventually sings the part with lyrics. If Chester can balance out LP and STP perfectly, this could be a really awesome thing.
