According to Billboard, Linkin Park's 2000 debut album 'Hybrid Theory' has finally eclipsed the 10 million mark for sales, making it the 20th album since 1991 to reach this plateau in the United States. Long-time fans may remember that 'Hybrid Theory' was certified Diamond by the RIAA in 2005, but this designation has to do with units shipped to retailers. By selling 3,000 copies last week, 'Hybrid Theory' was purchased for the ten-millionth time. This is truly an incredible accomplishment, and places the band amongst music industry heavy-hitters such as Metallica, The Beatles, Bob Marley, Santana, Eminem, Whitney Houston, Alanis Morissette, Celine Dion, Shania Twain, Backstreet Boys, 'N Sync and Britney Spears. It is the seventh album released this century to reach this mark, after The Beatles ('1'), Norah Jones ('Come Away With Me'), Eminem ('The Eminem Show', 'The Marshall Mathers LP'), 'N Sync ('No Strings Attached'), and Usher ('Confessions'). Also ever-so-close to hitting a milestone is 'Meteora' which as of August 5th was 45,000 sales away from hitting the six-million mark. Congrats to the band! Source: Billboard via Ignite
It blows my mind to see the distance between shipping 10 million units and purchasing 10 million units.
Really takes the meaning out of an RIAA certification, doesn't it? The entire system needs an overhaul.
The Beatles released an album this century? Didn't know that. Anyways congrats to Linkin Park and HT, hope it sells 10 million more!
It's even crazier that HT is STILL charting and selling up to this day, 12 years after the release. LEGENDS
There's a little typo in the opening post. The Eminem album is called The Marshall Mathers LP. Huge congrats to LP!
