Sorry if there's already a thread for this, but I looked and couldn't find it. New James Bond movie out on November 9. Opinions?
I know I can get fanboyish regarding this sometimes, but it feels very Nolan-ish to me. Correct me if I'm wrong haha
This movie looks great. It could even make up for quantum of solace. And I love the mention of Q but it doesn't fit the timeline anymore. How's that supposed to work?
I'm a massive bond fan. I've seen the majority of the movies and I don't really want to watch the trailers and spoil it. I'm pretty excited.
Casino Royale is the beginning of the chronological Bond timeline I believe. All the old Bonds were set after that.
It was a great movie. Look for my review tomorrow night. @ The timeline thing: There's no way we can reliably go by that anymore. There were no Communist plots in any of the Craig movies, so it can't conceivably take place before any of the EON films, even if Casino Royale is technically the first novel.
The Zelda timeline actually isn't that messed up, especially now that we have a canon "Word of God" timeline from the Hyrule Historia. And on that note: http://hoppedonpop.wordpress.com/2012/11/16/007-skyfall-2012/
Well look at this way, Casino Royale (2006) was a reboot rather than a prequel to the original bond movies - conveniently the first Bond novel was Casion Royale (which previous versions of the story where never done seriously or canon) so it only made sense to start from here. But yeah, the Bond films don't exactly have continuity between the story's. Though I'd like to think the 3 new Daniel Craig movies all work together in the same time line. But I doubt they'll remake any of the classic films/books with Craig any time soon. Its too much of a controversial move.
Personally I ignore the whole reboot thing, at least in Bond's case. In my eyes it can still work as one continuity, when you assume 007 and Bond are just a codename rather than an actual identity.
I've never looked at the Bond series as a connected series of stories. More simply they're stand alone stories that may or may not exist in the same continuity. In the case of the Daniel Craig movies, I consider them to be a reboot-- Standing apart from any other movies in the series as its own continuity.
