Anybody catch the pilot episode tonight? Being a huge Aaron Sorkin fan, I decided to check it out on HBO tonight. The first five minutes had me absolutely hooked: That clip may make the show seem political, but the rest of the episode gives a great look into the inner workings of a newsroom, from how news breaks to how it's prepared for primetime and delivered. And of course, there's dramatic conflicts between many of the characters. Jeff Daniels is especially brilliant. Anybody else check it out, or plan to?
I wasn't able to see the premier, but I'm also a pretty big Sorkin fan so I'll definitely be following it.
I'll have to start watching this. The trailers/promos had me absolutely hooked. Plus, Aaron Sorkin is a goddamn genius!
Jesse Eisenberg was the BP rep on the phone towards the end. It just excited me a lot because I loved The Social Network, so having him in another Aaron Sorkin/Scott Rudin project was cool.
Holy shit! Just went back and watched that part. That's awesome. Social Network is one of my top-5 movies ever, so I definitely enjoy this.
Yesterday's was actually number 4. I think ep. 3 is the best one we've seen so far, but this last one was great too.
Oh, well fuck. I'm behind. Edit: Just got myself caught up. I loved yesterday's episode. Just as I was thinking I couldn't stand much more of the personal drama bullshit, everything just dropped at the end in a really surprising and emotional way. Very good.
Had to go back and re-watch the last 10 minutes of last night's episode. Powerful stuff. I loved Will's behaviour when he summoned Mac and Charlie into the stage area.
Just watched the newest episode, and it was probably the most consistent episode since the pilot. It was the first episode where I felt like the personal dramas didn't weigh the episode down, but even still it could have been improved a bit. Also, it kind of bothers me that the female characters in this show (aside from Olivia Munn) are just kind of...dumb. This girl Jim is dating now actually says in this episode "my favorite day is Valentine's Day!" really? you've apparently had a history of bad romantic experiences on Feb. 14th, and yet you're still going to proclaim it as your favorite day? Jesus. is she 10 years old?
I just watched the entire season today and I have to say I was really impressed. I'm looking forward to season 2, provided I still have HBO when it comes.
Overall I was pretty happy with it. Some of the episodes in the first half of the season really dragged on, and I'm not a huge fan of some of the dumb humor/antics the characters get into, but there were some really powerful moments. I also loved the last scene in the last episode that acted as the "reprise" for the pilot.
I watched the entire season last weekend and loved it. Can't wait for the next season to start. Although it's really tough to watch Jeff Daniels in Dumb and Dumber and watch him in The Newsroom and believe they're the same person. It's two entirely different Jeffs. Guess that's why he's a great actor
I only saw the first episode while my friend was over (he has an HBO GO account) and I thought it was fabulous. I would love to watch the whole thing.
