It's about time I got one right. 1. Jared Leto held my hand and I helped him sing the second verse and second chorus of "Buddha for Mary" when I saw 30 Seconds to Mars live. 2. I'm extremely proficient at guitar but I dumb myself down because I don't want my friends to hold me on a pedestal. 3. I once got Matt Davies' (singer from Funeral for a Friend) autograph by following him around at Warped Tour for 45 minutes before he finally got to the FFAF merch booth.
Correct!!! 1. Jared Leto held my hand and I helped him sing the second verse and second chorus of "Buddha for Mary" when I saw 30 Seconds to Mars live. I saw 30 Seconds to Mars when they opened for Taproot and Chevelle. Back in the day, that was a sick line-up for me. Anyway, I was wearing one of their old-school T-shirts with the logo on the front and the upward-pointing arrow on the back, which I'd bought before their first album even came out. A lot of the street team was there, and they recognized me from posting on the official message board, and made me a member of the street team. 30STM didn't play very many songs, but their second-to-last song was "Buddha for Mary," and during the second verse, Jared leaned over into the crowd and took my hand in a sort of "high-five-hand-shake" gesture, but he didn't let go, and at one point I thought he was trying to pull me on stage, but he just kept singing and my voice was being picked up by the mic. When I turned around after the second chorus was over, everyone behind me was staring at me like I was the coolest kid at school. And y'know what? I fucking was. 2. I'm extremely proficient at guitar but I dumb myself down because I don't want my friends to hold me on a pedestal. I'm horrible at guitar. I can write songs well enough, but I don't practice enough... at all, really. 3. I once got Matt Davies' (singer from Funeral for a Friend) autograph by following him around at Warped Tour for 45 minutes before he finally got to the FFAF merch booth. This one's funny. I was walking around Warped Tour with my friend Colin (we'd gotten separated from the other people we were with) and I pointed toward an inconspicuous looking scene monster walking around. "Dude, I think that's the singer from Funeral for a Friend," I said. "How in the FUCK can you tell?" my friend asked me. "Just trust me." I didn't follow him for 45 minutes; it was probably closer to 15. But still, when he walked over to the FFAF merch booth and sat down in the back of the booth, I walked over and bought a T-shirt. The dude asked me if I needed anything else, and I pointed at Matt and I asked for his autograph. He laughed his ass off, because HE RECOGNIZED ME from when FFAF opened for Linkin Park on Projekt Revolution 2004. He was like, "You were there with your dad, weren't you?" Hahaha. It was awesome. I love telling those two stories.
1. At a meet and greet for a Skillet concert in 2010, former lead guitarist Ben Kasica almost forgot to give me back my CD after he signed it. 2. In the Mormon church, I have the authority to perform baptisms. (Not that I support the church anymore.) 3. My most prominent subject when I was in school was Literature Arts.
