Yeah? If you look up who Rick Rubin has worked with, then you'll probably cringe.

Well that article was an awesome read, thanks LPA for the post!!! Heck I hate it when people use the word MAINSTREAM. Hell if the response from people that I get towards Linkin Park is any indication, then LP is underground for not being liked. Does that make LP underground? Other then the awesome bunch of fans here at the LPA I always get laughed at at work or on youtube for liking LP. Every album they release gets scrutinized to the tenth degree. I want the words "Underground and Mainstream" to get destroyed. I like what I like and you like what you like. I like LP so piss off!!!

"Chester Bennington’s otherworldly vocals screeching over punishing guitars."

There is so much blood rushing to my genitals right now.

Same. I'm convinced it's Mike doing those backing vocals. (Don't ignore me this time like you did on FB :p)

Anyway, about the 1996 thing. That is when the band had formed, so maybe the guy who wrote the article somehow got that confused with when the actual CD Hybrid Theory came out.

It is Mike doing the backing vocals. And he sounds great. He's improved so much since Minutes.

the guy is a fan of "Thats Cool" and he keeps dating LP to a 90's band which annoyed me. Still a good article nonetheless

Basically just play with the volumes of each track in a song.

It's more complicated than that, it does have to do with putting the proper volume on each instrument, and deciding what track should stand out more/less, give it more punch, and stuff like that. It's more difficult than it looks.

Making sounds more prominent than others at the right time and at the right levels. Someone more educated in that area will tell you more. Hell, I'd like to know more myself.

From someone who has produced his own music, mixing is a lot more difficult than just fiddling a few knobs and adjusting volume levels. There's a whole science that goes into the mixing of a song, as you have to make sure the drums aren't overpowering, that you aren't losing the vocals in the midst of everything else, and even that...that things don't sound flat. You find yourself adding filters to drums to make them stand out....playing with multi-band compressors and applying said effects to vocals so they're clearer in the mix etc etc.

A good example is my Waiting For The End remix. I spent four months mixing that, and I'm still not 100% happy with it. There's still things I'd go back and change if I had the time. But you'll hear a lot of "panning", "faders" and other things done to make the track have life.
