Headphones will always be the most accurate way to mix.

Wrong, you can't just pitch as easily because of the proximity to your ears. Low end is also incredibly difficult to monitor properly on headphones.

You and Glen have a habit of waiting till literally the last minute and then swooping in. It's hilarious .

Either way, I'm very excited to hear your remix after how much you changed the feel of Given Up. Hopefully your BITS is just as shocking.

Fixed a typo when quoting you Darkspine lol. But honestly, the best remixers use both. Use headphones/studio to work out the dynamic ranges, levels and audio seperation...then play them over good speakers to ensure the low end isn't too light/heavy and that everything is in the proper key/pitch.

It's why there's always a lot going on in my remixes. Good example is this remix of Coldplay's Paradise I'm working on. The mixing is not perfect, but I've used both headphones/speakers during it's production (this is an early demo and the transition between the intro and verse has since been fixed to not be so abrupt):

Good grief... that is awesome! I'll be listening to that when it's finished for sure. Intro reminds me a little bit of something from Jet Set Radio Future, used to play that in my heady days of youth. Awesome!

LOL, well unfortunately i wont be sweeping in anywhere this month :( just had so many other commitments and projects that needed my attention this month.
but that dosnt mean i wont be back :)

ive had a good listen to all the entries, and there are a couple of right corkers in their, with katten julbrev's entry being my personal fav, although a little short.
looking forward to hearing mikes entry tomorrow too.

anyhow good luck to everyone participating, god knows you all deserve to win, just because of the shear amount of work you all put in.

    '
Thanks, I'm currently trying to find a way to transition back and forth between the intro parts (which will be the chorus too) and the verses. :)

Great resume, Ree, very comfortable, thank you :)

Oh and Derek, great mix so far. I'm glad you liked that song too, when I discovered Paradise I was in shock with the beauty of that song, becoming my favorite of the last couple of years probably.

Why would pitch be harder to gauge when it's closer to your ears? As long as you're not blowing out your ear drums, it will be fine. Low end monitoring isn't a problem with great headphones. And even if the low end isn't 100% accurate compared to speaker monitors, almost all of the people listening to your song won't be able to even hear the low end.

Obviously you want to monitor on as many things as possible before you completely release a song (car speakers, iPod buds, computer speakers), but studio monitor headphones are going to give you the most accurate mix.

Try vocal correction on headphones vs monitors, typically headphones are harder to judge accurate pitch on. I'm not saying that everyone has this issue but I most certainly have. Yeah, you'd definitely want to monitor on multiple systems but I prefer finalizing mixes on monitors as opposed to headphones.

This is correct. And with the low-end, some low end sounds are, literally, very long and a wave-form that is not fully formed is not heard by the ear as well.

Unfortunately covers aren't allowed this month, only remixes. Nice cover though.

And m_macdonald, your time is running out buddy, you better hurry .
