Announced today. "Oh god, another undersea dwelling romp?" Guess again, bee-yatch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pV_TDxl2UIo
Fuck. Yeah. There was just one thing that I know could be a big miss with this game - the mysteriousness.
Yeah, it seems like they may be dropping the creepiness of being surrounded by a mysterious ocean in favor of more highlighting of the retro-futuristic style.
I don't mind that. The trailer made me go "WTF!? Sweet!". So maybe its 'mysteriousness' is now 'what the fuck is going on?'.... Read this.
Any guesses on the plot? The story is all that drives me to play a BioShock game. IMO Andrew Ryan's bio makes connections to BioShock1 difficult. I would love a little audio log dropping his name though! I just hope this isn't a brother and sister assassination mission where the main character unknowingly kills his dad. Help me out people!
They haven't said that yet, actually. We don't know if it's even going to be connected. It could be like the Final Fantasy games -- different universes essentially under the same title.
I think you either misread my post or didn't comprehend it. Allow me to clarify. This game is set in the year 1912 or something like that, and Bioshock is the 1940's or 1950's (I don't recall off the top of my head). That doesn't, however, mean this is a prequel. The media asked Levine repeatedly if it's a prequel, asked why it's called Bioshock, and he has steadfastly refused to say it's a prequel. Most sites are reporting Infinite as if it simply shares the name due to the gameplay and will not, in fact, be a prequel, but instead will be a game in a different universe, as the Final Fantasy games (with the exception of a few) do -- they have similar gameplay, but they are not prequels or sequels for the most part. Another example would be Command & Conquer: Red Alert and Command & Conquer: Generals not being in the same "universe."
Ugh, it would be annoying to have the "universe" crap pulled in the Bioshock series. It's cool to mix things up but I'm never good with following excessively branching storylines or "canon" or "non-canon".
Well, I believe Levine's said it could be tied in to the original in some way, but they're not even thinking about it and aren't going to make a conscious effort to tie it in. So perhaps "re-imagined" is the best word, but it's still kind of hard to explain with just one word.
I like the idea of making a full franchise out of Bioshock, but I think after a while they're just going to start beating a dead horse. Plus the first one will always be the best.
There's only been three games in the franchise thus far, so I don't quite think they're beating a dead horse yet. And while I loved the original, Irrational is perfectly capable of making a better game.
