I know no one really gives a crap about the VMA's anymore (I don't), but I did tune in for a few minutes in the beginning to see what they were going to do for Michael Jackson. It was awesome how they put all of his songs together like that, and then for Janet to come out and sing a part of Scream and have her dance next to Michael on the screen was very, very cool.
Oh, and Kanye West is a piece of shit.

I even criticised him last night when the news came through, but some of the backlash I've seen has been a bit much. I'm already sick of hearing about it and it was only a few hours ago. I think it's set some sort of record for reaching redundancy status.
Kanye is a jerk. He reminds me a child who is thirsting for attention, constantly.
I'm just going to repeat what I said in RT because it still holds true:
I stopped giving a shit about the VMAs about 10 years ago when they stopped nominating actual music for awards. Now it's just the same old manufactured pop crap with one award for rock music to give the illusion that MTV gives a shit about something besides rap and R&B. Where are the awards for the bands that may not be as famous as Kanye or Beyonce but are about a million times more talented?
If they paid more attention to rock music I'd wager it'd just be stuff like Nickelback for the most part, and I don't think they need any encouragement either.

2007: At the MTV Video Music Awards the rapper apparently became "upset" when he had to perform his song Stronger from the Palms' Hugh Hefner Sky Villa instead of the main stage. When he walked away empty-handed after receiving five nominations, he reportedly yelled: "That's two years in a row, man … I'm trying hard, man, I have the number one record, man."
2008: Ye's ever-expanding blog becomes the outlet for his capital-letter frustration with just about everyone. In reponse to his arrest after an altercation with a photographer. "Let us not forget the paps killed princess Diana" he writes.
2009: Someone, somewhere, goes a step too far when they assume West's identity on Twitter. "I DON'T HAVE A FUCKING TWITTER… WHY WOULD I USE TWITTER???" he writes. Why indeed, when there are so many awards shows to vent your opinion at?
2009: "South Park murdered me last night", writes West, after the rapper was depicted on the show as a gay man attracted only to male fish. In a rare and apparently fleeting moment of self-awareness, he writes. "As long as people think I act like a bitch this type of shit will happen to me."
2009: The rapper elicits a chorus of boos when he bounds onstage during country singer Taylor Swift's acceptance speech for Best Video and declares "Taylor, I'm really happy for you, and I'm gonna let you finish, but Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time!"

As you said earlier Todd, I quit caring and haven't watched a VMA since maybe 2002 for that very same reason.
