Wma to mp3?

    Does anyone know how to convert a wma file to an mp3 file?

    I know there's a way to do it but I forget how.

    You can either burn it to a CD and re-rip it to MP3, or Im pretty sure iTunes for Windows can convert WMAs to MP3s

    iTunes can convert it for you.

    iTunes does not convert .WMA anymore because of legal action brought against Apple by Windows.

    Google 'Audio Conversion Wizard' and look at the first result (probably). There's a lovely little program by a group called 'Litex Media' - unfortunately it's a trial (unless you crack it *cough*askifyouneedit*cough*)

    But yeah you can re-encode into higher bitrates if you wish. Say you have a 128 .WMA, you can resample to a better 320 rate very easily.

    There's no point in upping something so much. You can't make something extremely good quality from something crappy simply by upping the bitrates.

    The max I'd go with 128 would be 192.

    But yeah another good program is from the good people at Acoustica (Who I beta test for XD). I use it and it's very reliable. It's called Acoustica Audio Converter Pro, and it's intergrated into shell (you can right click and select a conversion on any supported file in Windows) I'd give it a test, and if you like it, you can.. ehrmm.. liscense it.. :p

    You can, but there's no benefit. Its already been compressed down, re-encoding to 320 will just give you a huge MP3 file thats 320 with the sound quality of a 128 file. if you want to up it to a higher bitrate, you need the uncompressed file (Original CD, WAV file or another lossless format)

    Look isn't everything ;)

    From what I've heard, a good, free conversion utility is DBPowerAmp. I've never used it and I don't know how user friendly it is.

    Another good, free conversion program that I use is called BeSweet. It's a great program, but you need to download the main files, then the GUI, then all your codecs separate. It's a bit of a pain in the ass, but once you set it up and have the codecs you need, it's a great tool.
