Napster is back with what seems to be a great deal; $15/month for an unlimited amount of songs. That's equal to fifteeen songs off of iTunes, but there's over one million on Napster.com. While it'll take $10,000 to fill an iPod (10,000 songs), you can get as many songs for just one rate of $15.

While their collection isn't exactly full, I found some results on their search function from bands that I've been trying to find music from for ages. If I had enough trouble downloading for free, I'd undoubtedly try the new Napster.

Any thoughts? Check their tv promos here: http://www.napster.com/tvspots/index.html

what i don't like about the Napster deal is that you don't trully own the music, you're only renting them.

Wouldn't they work forever if you exported then externally, such as on an mp3 player?

    still no
they are encyrpted wma files, so unless you convert the to mp3 (which IS legal) they shut down when you end subscription
a lot of people are upset about this because you physically purchase a song, but you can't keep it forever

but i think you'll eventually have to remove the songs from your portable mp3 player for new ones. A cd is still the best way to get music.

Oh yes, for sure. I constantly buy cds. I just think this is the best deal out there if you're looking for legally-purchased online mp3s.

Is it going to be server based or server---p2p based. Because if people download the original song then are forced to share it, the network will suck, and people will start sharing corrupt crap again. If it's server based, it's going to cost Napster a hell of a lot of money to operate.

One of my dad's co-workers got a free month of napster with something else he bought, downloaded hundreds of songs in the month, and they all disappeared after the month, so you have to keep paying to keep the songs.

I'm not sure if you can burn the songs or transfer it to a player but the concept is bullshit to me. Once you download music, it should be yours.
