Completely agree, nobody here should think that there is going to be even a single "metal" song on this album. If anything, it's going to sound MORE like ATS than HT and Meteora, even with these comments that Chester's made.

    Bull.

Us fans should dictate what they do because we buy their albums.

Artist creating art based on their own feelings.

    GTFO with that nonsense.

Since I've been reding here I've seen quite a few guys talking about how Meteora wasn't all that great. But I don't really complain about it because everyone is entitled to have their own opinion. Particularly, I've always looked at Meteora as a piece on its own and never contrasted it or compared it to HT, however it's not difficult to tell that the elements (instruments used) are pretty much the same, I still think Meteora was quite good and I'm not ashamed to say it was great (to ME). However sometimes I feel shy of saying it aloud around here because I feel some could call me a "sheep", as I've seen how some make references to people who say like "every album and song" the band has ever made. I have, but I don't feel a "sheep" because of it, of course, I like some more than another, and there are a few I don't listen to that often but it doesn't mean I don't like it (i.e In Between, Robot Boy).

But we should focus right now into the new album, I'm sure most people here are pumped and eager to hear some more. Certainly the news of LP getting back in touch with their old selves has come as a "good news", and I know they won't disappoint and will bring us some really good stuff with a new twist, adding the experience they gained while they made ATS.

When my dad first heard Robot Boy he said it reminded him of Pink Floyd.

Mission accomplished on the bands part. It was the vibe they were going for with ATS, which to this day remains my favorite out of their catalog.

One thing to clarify too...just cause an album might be more happy or poppy sounding doesn't mean it's going to necessary suck. Mylo Xyloto was arguably more upbeat/pop than other Coldplay records (despite having some emotional lyrics) and it's a great album, possibly Coldplay's best. There's no reason to think the same won't apply to the new Linkin Park record. I'm kinda happy to see them step away from doom and gloom for a change lol.

Don't listen to it that much often, but the bridge is pretty fucking genius.

Those same people who called ATS "mainstream" think The Catalyst is a techno song.

The irony of it all is that if anything HT, Meteora and MTM were way more mainstream than ATS.

    Poppy!? NOooooooo :WTF:

Seriously great interview! Thanks a billion for sharing! I'm really excited for LP5 right now. Even more than before. I'm just wary that the big choruses could mean a reverse of what they've built upon so far with MTM & ATS. 3 minute songs with verse-chorus-verse structures again? no thanks. But 6 minute songs with unusual song structures AND big choruses (Audioslave style). NOW I'm interested!

I guess I'm a little worried. I don't want the band to be stepping backwards. Why do that when they've covered so much ground since 2003? Outside of the whole, "nu-metal is dead" and "Meteora sucks" banter, the real worry is that they might give in to the naysayers since 2006 and that would be selling out.

I'm excited like always, but I can't help but feel like this may be a step down from ATS. Looking forward to the first single. This should be interesting.

Because of this I am going to make a mashup album with LP over Mylo Xyloto songs.

100% Agree. I liked what they did with ATS. The lyrics (most) were extremely insightful and very powerful. ATS still stands out among the rest imo.

As far as the new album: Im more than ok with positive lyrics. I am, however, still confused on what kind of product LP will be delivering. I just hope its not everything ive heard on the radio. I dont want mediocre LP! Hopefully we can expect a pleasant surprise.

And Derek, the Coldplay example is a good one. I wasnt sure how they would top the last but they did.

It's these damn vague articles that confuse and mind fuck us all. I'm just gonna keep an open mind until I hear the album.

    ---

edflinkinp - if Meteora is your favourite LP album then please don't feel ashamed or anything to express your opinions about it on here. You are not a "sheep" for liking the music you like and everyone here has to respect your opinion. Fuck what anyone says about the music YOU enjoy. If you read some of the threads we have in the Linkin Park Chat section of this forum, you can see that there are many people who prefer HT/Meteora over MTM/ATS. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and I hope you don't feel like you will be judged on here for your musical preferences.
