Oh yep, I forgot about The xx and Vampire Weekend! But M83 is more of an electronica, synth, dreampop thing. Well I don't know the exact genre, but I wouldn't consider them as indie. Also, those who are Death Cabs For Cuties fan, any suggestions of songs/album to start with this band? I'm curious about them, I've seen some good feedbacks about their music on different forums.
Transatlanticism is Death Cab for Cutie's best album, by far. "Title and Registration" is a good song to start with. Plans is their next best album; "Soul Meets Body" is amazing, and "I Will Follow You into the Dark" gives me chills every time I listen to it.
Narrow Stairs is my personal favorite by them. It has brilliant songs and shows a good representation of Death Cab as a whole, but in all honestly listen to them all. The only one I find weak is Codes and Keys.
I second every part of this. But you can't forget Marching Bands of Manhattan. That was the biggest highlight of Plans for me. To OP, my favorites would be Death Cab and Iron & Wine. Love them both.
I know I already posted MGMT but all this death cab discusiion. My top 3: 1. MGMT 2. The XX 3. Death Cab for Cutie 2 and 3 are switched around a lot
Don't listen to indie much, but if the Killers count then definitely them. Mr. Brightside is, IMO, one of the best songs ever made.
I listened to some songs from Transatlanticism + I Will Follow You into the Dark. Some brilliant stuff, thanks for helping me out! I will definitely check more of their stuff. The guy's voice is really beautiful, and so are the melodies. The instrumentals are very touching and emotional. Good lyrics. I guess I could become a fan Well, I'm trying to listen to as much music as possible, but I can't go through all artists entire discography, it would take way too much time lol
Oh, man, I can't believe I forgot about "Marching Bands of Manhattan." That's my favorite song off Plans, actually. I realized I named off the two biggest songs from Plans without realizing it. I think it's just because I used to hear them all the time wherever I went, back when I was still in high school. That's awesome to hear. I love Ben's voice. If you're interested, check out The Postal Service. They're a side-project of Ben's which only put out one album, but it's PHENOMENAL in every sense of the word. Owl City tries to imitate The Postal Service, but TPS was magical. "Such Great Heights" might be one of the best indie pop/electronica songs ever.
Aw, I didn't saw this post until now....But anyway, I actually knew that song "Such Great Heights", but I didn't realized it was the same singer Well, when listening to Death Cab, I though "this dude's voice, it remembers me of something, but I can't put a name on it" ahah And yeah, SGH is a great song, I was blow away when I discovered it like 2 years ago, and I remember it made me want to listen to the whole Postal Service Record, and then...I just forgot to do it. I should definitely do it now, better late than never I guess.
The Postal Service record is great. It's a great electronic record. Doesn't match up to the epicness of some of Death Cab's albums but it's still really good
That's questionable... To me it's very boring, unimaginative and there isn't even one memorable song there.
Theres a few bands I have no idea who they are. Thats awesome. I get to find new music! But I digress... FOr the past few months I've been digging Matt & Kim. Their videos are hilarious and the music makes you happy
