Hey guys! So apparently there is a new photo from Mike Shinoda titled "Made some magic today." It is a picture of a writing pad in the studio. I figured I would make a thread to keep the talk of upcoming studio pictures in one place. Just as long as the photos aren't breaking news stories. Those will get their own news thread.

So that begs the question: Are we seeing the first working title(Water Taxi) of a demo for the new record?

Thoughts?

Discuss.

My favorites have to be

Crawling - I just love this so much more than the album version. The lyrics are better, and the music, though less "professionally" mixed and not as heavy, it sounds like it's supposed to be that way. I feel like the album version not only took away the feeling that Mike gave it but took away a lot of the feeling from the song in general. Although I do love the video.

Robot Boy - I sometimes think I like this one better than the original as well.

Esaul - Mike's flow on this is way cooler and way more complex than on A Place For My head imo.

Having recently discovering LP's live cover of Nine Inch Nails' "Wish", it got me thinking, what if on the 6th album did Industrial? With LP's further pushing of electronics in ATS and LT, I could honestly see this. Through in some of Mike's raps and they could be doing some real interesting stuff. Having an industrial sound would be great for them for 2 reasons, IMO. 1. They would be doing something new (at least for them). Always a good thing 2. The industrial sound would probably win back a lot of the HT and Meteora fans turned off by the past three releases.

Thoughts?

Chester could’ve avoided all this mess if he had replaced Weiland in Velvet Revolver instead. He’s performed with Slash, Duff, and Sorum more recently and more often than he has with STP. He was even rumored to be asked for the gig but turned it down because he respected Scott too much. (this was back in 2008)

There would be no “legacy” to tarnish and no real “classics” to butcher since Velvet Revolver wasn’t really successful as Stone Temple Pilots. But they’re is still a supergroup, a big name, and probably a more recent name for younger fans who remember the formation in 2003.

They’ve only had two albums with Weiland, so I DOUBT anyone would be complaining about a new singer. Slash was looking for a new one anyway.

Plus, I think Chester’s edgy vocals could mix well with Slash’s riffs. He was able to cover Paradise City and reminded Duff of his GNR days (according to an interview). Plus, he’s got similar stage presence to Scott.

Agree? Disagree?

Of course, this is a what if situation since he may or may have not turned down the offer. We will never though, but he would be in a better situation now without all these lawsuits and angry STP fans. I even think joining Velvet Revolver would've made him bigger than with STP.

Hey, guys.

So I'm wanting to make a Google Doc Spreadsheet as a quick reference guide for Linkin Park fan remixers. You want to know the tempo of a song? Here you go. Key? Here you go. Curious if there are stems? This'll tell you what's out there. There have been so many times I've just wanted to sort my tracks by tempo or key and then decide if I want to do a mash-up, instead of getting excited over an idea and once halfway through it realizing it's just not going to work.

So that's the point of this project. It's a Google Doc spreadsheet that lists all Linkin Park, Fort Minor, and Dead By Sunrise songs, their keys, tempo, availability of stems, and of course title and album. As of right now, I've only got the five studio albums listed, with a good jumping point for formatting certain things. Not all of the information is complete, though! And that's why I need your help!

Here's the link to the Remix Guide, as it is right now.

Some things to note:

There's no need for live tracks, unless it's something specific like an IEM recording that can be used. So there's no use for putting in Live In Texas or Road to Revolution.

Time Signatures do change. In Burning In The Skies, for example, the verses are in 6/4, while the chorus is in 4/4. So I notated that by putting it like this: "6/4(v) 4/4©".

Some of the songs might not be quantized (or they weren't recorded to a click track). An example would include The Messenger, which I know is around 125, but not 125-exactly-on-the-dot. I notated that with an "almost-equal-to" sign next to the tempo. Like this: "≈125".

There are a lot of interludes on A Thousand Suns. If you know any other interludes (like Reanimation), just copy that formatting. The formatting there is more useful for Reanimation than ATS, since there is a key, tempo, and time signature for Wake, The Radiance, NTR/mssn etc.

To my knowledge, Until It Breaks is the only song with an actual tempo change that I've come across. There's a change from 80bpm to 85bpm at some point (I'll have to check for those values). I haven't gotten there yet, but I'll probably notate it like this "80(v1) -> 85(v2)" Or something like that.

As far as the Stems column goes, it's a bit more complicated than just a Yes or No. Yes would be that the song has stems, but that doesn't mean I shouldn't say something about that Make Your Own Mash-Up contest LP had around 2008 or so. They may not be super high quality loops, but I know there are partial bits of Leave Out All The Rest out there to use. There's also some fan made stuff, some of the songs have incomplete stems. There's a turntable track for It's Goin' Down floating around out there. I'd like to account for all of that.

Some tracks were released as b-sides. My December and High Voltage should use Hybrid Theory's formatting, while Blackbirds or It's Goin Down should use a formatting of their own, since they don't really belong to an album.

What I really need help with right now is putting in rows for Hybrid Theory EP, Reanimation, Collision Course, LPU cds, collaborations, and b-sides. I might also include links to lyrics (try to use an official source, if possible).

At any rate... for now this is open for people to edit. You guys have the link. Please don't be a dick about it by deleting everything, and don't be upset if someone else corrects you if you're wrong. That's just how peer review goes, and that's the best way to ensure accuracy.

So, what do you guys think? Good idea?

What is with the LPA community and calling Meteora, Hybrid Theory part 2? I don't understand the consistent level of ignorance when it comes to that....

What is with the LPA community and calling Meteora, Hybrid Theory part 2? I don't understand the consistent level of ignorance when it comes to that. Linkin Park had an established sound in Hybrid Theory, so they stuck with it. Of course Reanimation sounded different, those were REMIXES of tracks. I'm sick of people blaming Don Gilmore and Warner Brothers for the way the album turned out. Let me guess.. at this point you got your fingers warmed up to type a response like "did you hear Halo?", like you are going to prove to me that a few instrumental demos that were released show signs of this album being completely different. Did you all hear And One or High Voltage (any version)? Those tracks were made and sound completely different, especially the High Voltage that was cut from Hybrid Theory the album. Linkin Park has always made something a little different here and there before they wanted to expand on their styles so don't give me the bullshit about the DEMO tracks that you heard. How can you infer that this project had potential to be other-wordly but it was forced to become a carbon copy for sales? Plus there is nothing like "Nobody's Listening" or "Easier To Run" on the first album. I know you guys will come at me with the

"Somewhere I Belong" = "In The End"

"Don't Stay" = "One Step Closer"

"Session" = "CFTI" (really? an ambient electronic instrumental is the same as turntable solos? in what planet?)

but how is that even possible? I can name a few Sum 41 tracks that sound identical from different albums but I don't sit there and go "oh this track has a rap verse/rock chorus/screamed bridge format so BOOM it's a copy" because at that rate Lost In The Echo and Lies Greed Misery are completely old-school knockoffs. Meteora made the band so much money, and had one of their most successful singles in "Numb" so I can't see how this album is so irrelevant/awful to the most of the members on this forum. I personally call it my least favorite, but that's not the reason why.

Discuss your opinions.

But recently, he's been talking about how he really doesn't like the band he once loved.

Saying things like Living Things was uninspiring and the band have lost their energy and lost the ability to create exciting or unique songs.

And I'm kinda agreeing with him on some parts. For example, today I listened to High Voltage, and I just tough "Mike hasn't rapped as well as this again, and the music behind his raps hasn't been as good as this either."
