LIVING THINGS 1 Year Anniversary Week: Podcast, Listening Party, Concert Live Stream + More

It's hard to believe that Linkin Park's fifth studio album is approaching its first birthday. It doesn't seem too long ago that fans were piecing together BURN IT DOWN puzzle pieces, playing video games on Linkin Park's official website and digging through source code to cypher numbers together in hopes of unveiling every piece of information we could about Linkin Park's new album. That album, of course, is LIVING THINGS and this time next week it will be exactly one year old! We wanted to celebrate one of Linkin Park's most successful album cycles with a week's worth of events and activity in commemoration of LIVING THINGS' release and we hope you can join in with us! All events will take place on the LPAssociation Live Events Page at the stated time-slot, so be sure to bookmark it.

On Saturday June 22nd we'll be streaming a live performance from Linkin Park's LIVING THINGS World Tour. We chose to broadcast Linkin Park's show from the Arena Anhembi in S�o Paulo, Brazil on October 7th, 2012. This was Linkin Park's first show back in Brazil since 2010 and the crowd were on top form. The show was broadcast on TV so there's a decent pro-shot floating around which includes tracks like IN MY REMAINS, LIES GREED MISERY, VICTIMIZED/Qwerty and BURN IT DOWN (Full Setlist Here). The show is readily available online but we always have fun watching them together with you guys so we hope you can stop by our channel and hang out with us, chat with each other and watch the show together.

On Sunday June 23rd we'll be holding a listening party of LIVING THINGS. We'll stream the album and be in the chat to hang out with you guys to discuss the album and anything else that comes up. It's always good to hang out with fans and we hope you can join us one year later to listen to LIVING THINGS.

After the listening party on June 23rd we'll be holding a LIVING THINGS themed podcast where we'll take a look at LIVING THINGS and discuss everything there is to discuss about its release cycle, the album itself and everything that surrounded it including the LPU Summit in Camden, NJ, the Linkin Park Scavenger Hunt and whatever else the conversation delivers. We never got around to this last year so it will be awesome to take on these subjects with the staff who attended these events and with you guys, who we hope can stop by and take part in the discussion yourselves!

Not only will we be hosting these events this weekend but we'll be celebrating LIVING THINGS' birthday all week with activity beginning tomorrow on the LPAssociation Twitter! Linkin Park Confirm Tour Date in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on August 19

Linkin Park have officially announced a new tour date for their upcoming Asia leg of the Living Things World Tour in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on August 19 2013. The exact location for the show hasn't been announced yet. LPU pre-sale tickets will be on sale Wednesday, June 19th. To view all upcoming tour dates head over to the Linkin Park Tour Map or view a list at the foot of this post.

This will be the second time Linkin Park have ever played Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia with their first show being back on October 15, 2003, which took place at the Stadium Merdeka.

I'm sure a few of you will have heard about former CIA member Edward Snowden leaking top-secret information on the National Security Agency's activities of secretly gathering information on people via social media. I wondered what everyone's opinions are on this matter. Some people have called Edward Snowden a hero while others have referred to him as a traitor and a threat to National Security. He is currently in Hong Kong but is seeking permanent political asylum elsewhere as the US government looks to capture him for treason.

LPA member irene_ got a chance to chat with Phoenix of Linkin Park. In the interview, they discuss Linkin Park's plans for 2014 including the upcoming record, The Mall Soundtrack, and touring. Also, they discuss the band's writing process, the use of technology as well as social media. Below is the interview published from lpfancorner.

With the world wide success of Living Things, people were impressed with the sound as it blended everything you�ve done in the past. Will the next album be a completely different sound or something we�re familiar with? Will it be something similar to A Thousand Suns? Would you say the 6th album is sort of a metaphor for after high school where we get an idea of what you�ve put together over the last 5 albums?

I�ve never really been interested in trying to predict what our album is going to sound like. When we begin our writing process, we try to be as open as possible to the creative process and really try to work on what is sounding the best to us in that moment. It�s towards the end of the writing process where we can finally sit back and see what shape the album taking, and we can steer it from there.

What�s in store for Linkin Park for 2014? Touring, finishing up �The Mall� soundtrack or studio album? Would both the soundtrack for �The Mall� & the studio album be released in one year?

We are working on the soundtrack/score for �Mall� and our next studio album concurrently. They will be released when they are ready� and touring will happen too. How unhelpful is that answer?!?!

Would you ever hone yourselves up in the Lorel Canyon studios like you did for �Minutes to Midnight� while making an album in the future again or is the ease of being able to work in your own home studios and on the road while touring a convenience now that some of you have families & other responsibilities?

My goal with anything having to do with the creative process is to not put any restrictions on how we operate. I really feel like the best way to create something new is to not follow any preset rules preconceived notions of how things need to be. Having said that, it�s possible we could work again at the Laurel studio/house, and it�s possible for us to not ever feel the need.

Whose idea was the guerrilla street marketing for SSMF & was that a last minute thing or was it sporadic as the day went chain of events were decided?

It came out of us wanting to do some things how we used to do them, and then morphed into its own unique day. All in good fun.

How do you think social media has changed since Linkin Park started? Do you think that involvement in social media is important & necessary for a band to be successful? How often do you use social media & in what form?

Social media is just another way to communicate. The real driving force has and always will be the fans. I think it�s important for bands to communicate with their audience, and vice versa. But the important thing is the exchange, not the medium for the exchange. I�m on Twitter, but my activity there goes in spurts.

Linkin Park�s use of technology has increased since the last album from the use of body scans created at Gentle Giant studios to the �Lost in the Echo,� music video (which was nominated for an O music award for best interactive video) to the �Castle of Glass� video which is also used in the �Medal of Honor� game. How do you see yourselves pushing the boundaries in future endeavors as a band?

We are always trying to find new ways to pique our own interest in what we are doing� technology and its constant evolution seems to consistently offer new avenues to explore in the creative world. Moving forward, we are looking to integrate more technology into our live shows.

The �mangled� Ernie Ball music man bass is a signature piece of the touring gear. I heard its last show was in New Zealand. Any plans to have it be the first bass auctioned off at a LPU summit one day or possibly put in the rock n roll hall of fame?

I don�t know if I can actually retire that bass yet. It�s been way too much fun beating that thing up, only to have my tech (Ted) continually bring it back to life. It�s a testament to how much abuse an Ernie Ball can take and still be �operational.�

Day & Night EP

The other EP I was working got scrapped. I'm coming out with a new EP in August Called "Day & Night" and it's going to feature six quality tracks all produced and written by me. This EP is still being worked on but most of my initial ideas are in place.

Here's some quick descriptions of songs that i've been working on:

- Untitled: This track is pretty dark. Very bass heavy/electronic beat but uses a Big L sample, giving this track a futuristic yet classic hip-hop sound. The lyrics are very crazy; a ton of metaphors and syllable stacking. Pretty aggressive shit right here, not going to lie. Status - Finished

- Untitled: More of a club banger. Instrumentally something you would expect Tyga or Lil Wayne to use. Pretty upbeat and catchy, but still has some unique lyrics. More college-party song if anything. Status - Finished

- Untitled: Made out of three different samples that I couldn't imagine going together until now. Picture "Bullet Proof" by La Roux, "Believe Me" by Fort Minor, and "21 Questions" by 50 Cent all mashed into the same song. Status - Finished

- Untitled: This track is split into two halves with different beats. Sounds like "Fuckin Problems" and "Swimming Pools". Not those two songs, just the sound. Status - Incomplete

- Interlude: Quick 32-bar freestyle over an old school sounding beat. Quality is low on purpose, to give it that old-school feel. Status - Finished

- Untitled: This song is seven minutes long right now. I think I have 6 verses on here, the most I ever had to get out in one song. I was going to cut it in half and make it a normal length song but, what's a normal length song to begin with? Status - Finished
