I don't know if this has been brought up before but I want to know how have you people on LPA encountered racism personally? Like what has been said to you or about you that was racist?

Example:
My best friend ever was talking to me yesterday on the phone. We were just BS'n. He's white and very non-racist. He told me that when he first started working at the movie theater people called him a wigger behind his back because of how he dressed. I told him he's definitely not a wigger and dressing in an urban style does not mean you're trying to be black or something. Then he called me an Uncle Tom. Yes and Uncle Tom. For those of you who don't know what that is...

I can't say I have yet to encounter racisim personally...I live in a mostly black area, but everyone I've met is very tolerent of race.

That's quite funny really because I came into a recent encounter with somthing of the sort. You see.. I'm Jewish. But there was this black kid who sat next to me in my science class. He was reading out loud instead of in his head and it was throwing off my concetration so I politely asked "Excuse me but could you please read that in your head? I can't concentrate." I'm never considered much of a mean person at school so I was trying to be as polite as I could. But he still went on reading aloud. I politley asked again and he refused. Then one of his friends asked him to stop and he listened to him. He then turned to me and he was like "I don't listen to white people." a shocked look came over my face and I was like "Excuse me? What the hell did I ever do to you?" I couldn't believe his stupidity.. and then he turns to me again and says "I don't like Jewish People. Hitler should of killed you all, esspecially you, I don't like you." I dropped my mouth open and I was like "Then that's ####### racist you #######. If you feel that way, then how would you like to still have been a slave? Huh?" I was pissed haha. But of course, now I have detention. He got suspended for a day for racial comments and I got detention for the 'slavery' thing. I guess I was wrong in a way but I wasn't saying he should've still been in slavery. I was asking him how he would feel if he was still a slave.. I still think I wasn't really that wrong but when i'm mad, i'm mad lmao. I was only acting out on pure defense that's all.

Good for you&#33; I dont give a f*ck if it resulted in detention (although you probably do and Im sorry), what you said was the perfect thing to do in return because I&#39;m sick and tired of people thinking they can be racist and then not expect to get the same treatment back in return. Racism shouldn&#39;t exist at all and I in no way support it, but if you are going to say something racist to my face you better expect to get the same exact thing thrown back at you.

My theory on everything is..."Treat others the way you would like to be treated." Maybe that racist jerk needs to look up that meaning and think about what he said.

if anything, you&#39;d think that a black person can sympathize with the a Jewish person because they&#39;re probably the 2 groups of people in the world to took the most shit from anyone else. And I guess that kid forgot that Hitler hated and wanted to kill anyone who wasn&#39;t white and blacks were just as big of a target as the Jews during the holocaust.


Fortunatley, I&#39;ve never really seen any racism at school. More than half of my school is Jewish (I&#39;m athiest, family&#39;s Jewish, so I&#39;m still sorta Jewish) so no one ever says anything except the stereotypical Jew remarks that we all say to each other jokingly.

Surprisingly, as a "white" kid (I&#39;m actually mixed, but mostly white) I have experienced racism. Coming from an area that is primarily hispanic and indian, there were always kids that would make fun of me because I&#39;m white. It wasn&#39;t anything that would scar me for life, but it was kind of upsetting. I think racism is horrible, and I really wish that people would just get over their differences (racial and otherwise) and move on with their lives. Thanks Derek and Pyro. Yeah it&#39;s okay Derek, I don&#39;t care about the whole detention thing.. Good theory though I agree. I try to do the same exact thing sometimes. If I try that is. I&#39;m not really the type of person that every really sticks up for myself (even though I know I should) but this time, for once, I did so that&#39;s good. :)

one saturday i went out with my friends and we wanted to enter a famous disco,...and the bodyguard checked my identity card,...(he only asked people who looked like turkish or marrocans because they have caused problems in the past) well i am nor of them,...i dressed up very nice like a gentleman,....and the bodyguard told me to come back next week,...i asked "why? its my first time coming here" he said "because we dont know you,...come back next week on thursday"

I remember a few years ago when I heard something about a classmate of me. He is black but got adopted by a white couple when he was a baby. One day he and his mother were somewhere, I don&#39;t know where, but there were other people too. His mother asked him to go and sit somewhere and she pointed to some black people with the intention to sit there. He said:&#39;I&#39;m not going to sit next to those blacks&#33;&#39;

The boys even make fun of this one black kid, who never even did anything to them. When they make fun of him, he doesn&#39;t stick up for himself. It kind of makes me feel sorry for him, but he&#39;s stupid for not defending himself. If I was him I would have been gotten the bullies in trouble. I go to a Catholic School, so this is not tolerated at all, the principal even said if any form of racism in committed he&#39;ll expell who ever did it. I guess the black boy just ignores what everyone says... it just makes me wonder what goes through his mind when they talk about him.

been white and born in South Africa during the time of apartheid(spelling), I was bought to think that all blacks cant be trusted , I remember when I was in grade 6 and all the schools became multi ratial, we had parents and teachers telling us crap like hide your lunch , or make sure you sit next to your white friend. but once the black kids started settling in we began to realize that there wasnt any difference between us, infact I met my best friend throught this as he was an African American, who moved back to South Africa cause apartheid was gone. However it really pisses me off now at work since im now living in London I have this coloured boss that tells me stuff like the blacks should get all there land back and the white ppl in Zimbabwe are getting what they deserve , and even though he is joking it really bugs me cause Its not like I was asked to be born white in South Africa. now I have many black and coloured friends than white (if not more) the only problem I still battle with is mixed couples , especually over here in England where you would see a white girl going out with a black guy. I know its normal over here and It just going to take time to get used to it.

There&#39;s an old KKK dude that lives on the corner of my friend&#39;s street. One night I was playing manhunt with my friends, and one of them, my friend Bianca, happens to be hispanic. I&#39;m half black and half white, as some of you can probably tell from my picture. So the dude decided to say some racist comments to my friend and I. We had a fit laughing and busting on him. We hung around the corner the whole night just to get him pissed :lol: I&#39;ve experienced alot of racism in my town, because i&#39;m of a different race than almost everyone in my town, the majority of people are white. I&#39;ve had this one kid tell me that i&#39;m black therefore I don&#39;t deserve to live, this other guy that I used to like got all his friends to IM me with racist comments, calling me a dirty n*gger, a dirty islander, etc. Hell, some female dog in my school even decided to take my nickname and call me Fifi the black poodle. Then this other girl got mad at me, and used that idea by making a screenname out of it. Yeah, it&#39;s racism, but I deal with it. I don&#39;t like racists, and i&#39;m currently in a club at school called STARS to spread awareness about it. Trying to get people to understand what racism is is half the battle.

I&#39;m Asian (oriental), England&#39;s predominantly white but London is a very multicultural society so I haven&#39;t really experienced first hand racism. The only thing I remember was when I went shopping with my friend, who&#39;s a Bengali Muslim, and next to us I overheard these guys saying something like "bloody Arabs". The funny thing was my friend wasn&#39;t even Arab but I&#39;m sure those guys couldn&#39;t tell the difference. So it wasn&#39;t anything serious but I was still pissed that people can be so casually racist.

Though completely wrong, racism is unavoidable. As long as people are different, other people will want to make their "group" of people seem superior to others, at the same time making others seem inferior. If they&#39;d stop trying to classify our species into groups, and just recognised us all as PEOPLE, we wouldn&#39;t have this problem. I have friends who are sort of racist. But not really. It&#39;s weird, really. They have these nicknames for black people. They call them Snickers. Ever since they started calling black people that, I get hungry whenever a black person is around me.

But to be serious, I don&#39;t care either way. Words are words. And while words may be the one thing that could change a persons mind or help a person, at times it could be a useless tool. When it comes to racism, it&#39;s useless. So what if you get called "African American", "chink", "spic", or "cracker"? Is being called that going to change who you are? Is being called that going to give you money or take away money? Is being called that going to kill you? Nah. Those words are useless.

Now for when racism evolves from words to violence. That&#39;s different. That&#39;s when something should be done. You can&#39;t let someone beat you up. Especially for a reason as stupid as what color you are.

You gotta fight back racism when it&#39;s needed. When it&#39;s not needed, just go on with your life.
