View Full Version : Canada/Europe: You Are No Longer Safe
No, nothing about terrorism, but a P2P jihad is coming to Canada and Europe. Check this out:
The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) is starting legal action against named Europeans and Canadians it accuses of sharing music files.
The 247 people are in Denmark, Germany, Italy and Canada have used file-sharing networks including Kazaa, WinMX, eMule and iMesh.
Similar moves in the US attracted controversy when the RIAA took action against a twelve-year old schoolgirl.
The IFPI says the action is justified because it comes after a long education effort warning consumers; also there is now a large catalogue of legal downloads available.
Action is being taken by IFPI-affiliated recording industry bodies in the relevant country.
In Denmark 120 people will receive "civil demand" letters asking them to stop file sharing and pay compensation or face legal action. In Germany 68 individuals have been reported to the police.
Police in Italy have already raided addresses after 30 were charged with copyright infringement - 25 computers and 30 hard disks were seized.
In Canada, 29 face copyright claims after action was taken against ISPs to force them to reveal subscribers' identities.
According to IFPI, file sharing is a major cause for falling album sales across the globe. The Tzotziles people of the Chiapas region of Mexico believe that modern cameras can capture and steal their souls.
Record industry representatives in Sweden are today starting an instant messaging campaign warning file sharers that they face possible legal action.

I don't share on Kazaa, and I now use mIRC/Will (greatest p2p program ever. :P) for mp3's and only use Kazaa for tv shows and movies. I'm safe. But maybe you aren't.

I was expecting to see that the US broke all allies with everyone and now hates the whole world for no reason.

I only use WinMX for mp3's. And if they want CD sales to go up, they should think about lowering prices instead of suing people because, truth is, file-sharing will never stop.

Anyone else have Limewire? It's pretty good, I'm not sure if it's illigal yet or not.

No one is safe that illegally downloads files. That's a risk we have to take. Some people risk it more than others by sharing hundreds and doing stuff like that that but who cares?
F*CK THE RIAA!
why do they care so much? sharing music files is NEVER going to stop. people will always find a way around it.

You should download Shareaza or WinMX, they're very good programs, and I don't see why you use peer-to-peer programs when you're not even sharing. KaZaA is full of spyware, and just like how Napster went down, you move onto another p2p program.

I know what mIRC is, I figured you still used KaZaA though. I have KaZaA Lite, and I don't use it either. For movies/anime/others I use C++ and for mp3s I use Shareaza and WinMX.

I've tried learning how to use mIRC a couple of times now, each one ending in bitter dismay. I can't figure out for the life of me how anyone gets stuff off of it... :wth:
I generally just stream rip music right off a band's website anymore, or get it from some college friends.
Games/Apps/Movies = bittorrent

Jihad? z_Z; I don't want to make this a big fuss, but this topic isn't something 'religious.' I know that you used that word as a sarcasm, and blah... but I don't think that's fair that you pick out on things like that.
Interesting article, though.

Like that's gonna stop me downloading files. I only turned sharing off, this way if they know I download files I'm gonna sue them back for hacking into my PC  .

I use SoulSeek for most of my mp3s, and mIRC for music videos. I use WinMX sometimes too though, since it doesn't use up as much memory.

www.mirc.com
its complicated and difficult for beginners
but when u get used to it u will see that it rulez
The RIAA are a bunch of losers. People don't want to pay 1$ for a song. That's insane. I would be approx 1000$ in the hole if I payed for all my mp3's! Also, you can't download everything, just singles. How useless is that?! I think that if their sales are going down, instead of sueing everyone, they should find another media to sell, or sell cd's cheaper. Goddamn whiners
