My mom just told me then that there is a deadly virus going around. You can get it by downloading files, or just using the Internet period. She couldn't remeber the name of it or any of the details so I'm just wondering if any of you have.
My computer is running slow enough already, and to give it another virus would deffinitly blow it up or something.
She said that it is going worldwide and could pop up anywhere.
So, does anybody know anything about it or where I could find some info?
The virus is called "my doom," and it replicates itself and sends itself out through e-mail attachments.
To keep it simple and plain: Don't open any e-mail attachments if you don't know who the attachment is from.

Yep, its that simple. I dont get why people still open email attachments from people they dont know, and i dont understand why people dont have antivirus programs, dont computers like come with them nowadays?? I dont get it... its simple.

Here's an article about MyDoom (http://www.cnn.com/2004/TECH/internet/01/29/mydoom.future.reut/index.html)
If you have an anti-virus, update the database and you'll be ok :D .
Or, if you're smart like me, you'd buy a Mac and never have to worry about viruses and you can open any and every attachment you receive because you can't get infected :D

And wich games do you play on your Mac :P ? Sim City 2000  ?
I recently recieved an email claiming someone needed my assistance...now, for some reason, an extra gigabyte on my hard drive is being used, but there was no attatchment to the email. I don't think it's MyDoom, and I did a virus scan but came up with no results. Oh well. I don't use any anti-viruses, but it seems viruses are getting more and more dangerous, so maybe I should.

I got the MyDoom virus...zipped in a file.
Here's what you do, if you have Outlook Express, use your AntiVirus to scan it, it'll find the virus and then quarantine it.. That's how my friend got the zipped file.

Man, whew. I thought you were talking about a "real" computer virus. Like in Law and Order. Some kid put some virus in some hospital. And somehow through the computers the virus got out and killed people. Very cool.

Some things in Law and Order are based on facts. But that's besides the subject.

Im sure if someone put a computer virus into a hospital's main computers it could kill people ;). Especially if the computers control everything that goes on in the hospital. But thats why hospitals arent stupid, and dont use computers except to file medicine records :).

Yah. But medicine records are important. I know.. I've been to the hospital lots of times... :chemist: I know everything that goes around.. Even the two lesbian nurses who.. Urm... Anyways... My sister has a virus in her computer that doesn't allow her to open Netscape or Explorer. Like, it would open but than it would close. Yeah.. Her PC is always ####ed up.

Actually, SCO did not shut their servers down because of the DoS's. They just turned them off so as to get the public's interest. I'd be glad if a hacker attacked for ONCE without pre-messaging his attack. Now it's piece of cake for Microsoft to avoid the attacks.
