View Full Version : An Apology From The Co-Owner Of LPA

Dear Members,

As the co-owner of The Linkin Park Association I always take pride in presenting a polite and non-offensive community to all who visit.

Unfortunately, being busy working on the LPA outside of the website and with my own life I recentely visited our forums to find out that our community was in an uproar over a thread which contained racial and downright offensive jokes, jokes in which caused such offense that a few members felt the need to write me, declaring they would not return as thier opinion of our site was now tarnished.

Reading a few of these jokes I found references to skin color, retardation and even the death of R&B singer Aaliyah. I myself was personally offended when reading these jokes and I can guarantee you I do not condone attacks on any of these subjects as I respect all types of people and do not judge them on thier skin color or way of life.

Situations like this are what I and my hard working staff work to prevent from happening on a daily basis. However, when members of our staff partake in a situation like this, it gives the members of our forums the impression that its alright to make fun of someone because they are retarded, or that its alright to make fun of someone because of thier race.

It is not. This type of behavior is not acceptable in any way, shape or form and I guarantee as long as I run this website, that a situation like this shall never happen again, and if it does so happen, that the offending staff members will have thier jobs revoked immediately.

Rest assured LPA visitors, all staff members and members who were involved in this senseless act have recieved warnings, with the staff members getting disciplinary action, more severe then the action against the offending members themselves.

A situation like this, will NEVER and I repeat NEVER happen again on this site as long as I am around, and I send my apologies out to the many members who were indeed offended by what was said.

I hope this event has not tarnished your views on our website, or caused you to leave us and shall that be the case, I hope this apology can serve as an invitation to come back to our website whenever you wish, as we always invite you with open arms.

Respectfully Yours,
Derek Jonathan Oswald
Assistant Webmaster and Co-Owner Of The Linkin Park Association

There's just no excuse for my behavior and I deserve that warning. I apologize to everyone for my behavior.

Finally, I was about to say something about this. I was offended by reading these jokes on the site. Not because they offend me as a person, they offend me to see that some admins and lots of ppl were ENCOURAGING these racial comments. Where has the world gone? Just because someone has darker skin, it doesnt mean theyre any different. It can't be helped because its all in the genes. Be proud of who you are and don't make others feel down.

im sure no-one here on the LPA is actually racist, they were just jokes for a laugh, not for any racial harm

But it went too far....

I'm sorry if you were offended by my Aaliyah joke, I must've had a brain cramp and thought it wasn't that serious. I'll make sure it doens't happen again.

Anyways, if you got offended, I'm sorry. I didn't read the thread from the time I posted my joke (3rd or 4th post) until when Todd closed it, but after reading it when my curiosity sparked me to look at it because it was closed, I realized that would of been closed and deleted immediately. I should've read it earlier..

I'm not implying anything here, but;

You think it's wrong to be racist, some people think its quite fine to be. A lot of people have reasons on why they are racist, they don't just say they don't like a certain group of people for the hell of it.

You are basically saying people should respect other people of other colors, well then you should respect people with different thoughts as you.(people who are racist)

Well, you provoked me Bryan.

Exactly! The world is not at a stage of world peace if you didn't notice this morning. Everyone is prejudice and racist whether you know it or not. Believe me...we all are in some way, little or big.

Wow. I haven't read any of these "jokes" here on LPA, but I was shocked as I read this. Why would people make fun of others because of their skin color? This question I cannot come up with an answer.

Okay, guys, I'm pissed.

LPA has just handed you guys a nice apology and you guys are throwing it right back at them saying, "I was offended, wah wah!"

The least you offended people can do is say THANK YOU, for crying out loud. What other website do you know issues an apology like this?? You guys need to stop being so damn demanding.

Great, I bet I'm going to start a flame war now.

Drop it NOW guys or recieve additional warnings. Bottom line to anyone who participated in this joking (including staff) you were wrong. There's no moving around it.

I find it upsetting that rather then apologize you guys are claiming that it could be alright to be racist as telling people not to be racist is discriminating against others opinions.

Sorry but the LPA is not 100% free speech. We care about our members no matter what type of person they are, and we also care about thier feelings. Jokes of this type can severely upset a person, and we are here to respect that, not call them over sensitive.

Bottom line, you guys all owe apologies right here. Sorry.

Please apologize, and admit you were wrong.

I will however add that I do understand Bryan's post. People are racist everyday whether they see it or not. People dont go right up to a black guy and use the N word but if someone of a different ethnicity then them cuts them off the road they might throw out a stereotype, but aren't actually racist. I understand that but that type of talk is not welcome here on the LPA. Not one bit.

How would you like being black, and someone made a joke about your ethnicity? You'd blow a fuse. Just like if someone made a joke about me being white, I wouldn't like it.

It's not a matter of whats right or wrong, when it all comes down? It's how you could make someone feel saying these things.

This is intended to be a lesson in being nice to others. The only thing I meant to accomplish from all these warnings and this slight rant in this post is to make this community a better place.

Surely you guys can understand, I care about you all. Until you break the rules and get on my bad side, :teehee:. Just kidding.
