So guys there has been talk going on about which song is the better opener for an album. So what do you think? Papercut or LOST IN THE ECHO?

P.S, Don't bash me for making this thread, I'm just curious as to what people think.

Well I did mention both these songs in the same sentence when I wrote my review, but even I, who basically loves linking two tracks across different eras/albums together didn't attempt to compare them. They're waaaay too different for that.

Yeah too different. Papercut is just one of those songs that melds Mike and Chester. and rap and rock, so well. The chemistry could not have ever been better than that. LITE is awesome too, but in an In The End way.

Papercut x1000. Lost In The Echo is good, but is nowhere near Papercut's level.

I prefer LITE. But I'm one of those who didn't rate Papercut as highly as most people do. I don't dislike it but I never saw it as the prototypical LP song that encompassed everything they were trying to achieve at the time. There were other songs that were equally as all encompassing that I prefer listening to.

Papercut. Lost In The Echo must be one of the most overrated Linkin Park songs ever at this point. Hopefully the hype dies down a bit after the album's been out for a while.

Honestly guys. The only aspect remotely similar between these two tracks is that they sit atop their respective tracklists. Get real!

LITE. Papercut isn't even in my top 20 LP songs. LITE is my #3 LP song. Perfect Album Opener

Papercut. I don't think Linkin Park has ever had a better bridge than 'The sun goes down' and it's harmonies. Beautiful stuff.

LITE, but its probably only because I'm hyped up about the album right now. Definitely not a final answer

People really need to stop with all of these VS topics... They're getting a little repetitive.

Oh, and Lost In The Echo. Take off the nostalgia goggles people.

Nostalgia doesn't really make songs any better imo, Nostalgia only works on TV shows tbh

In my opinion Papercut is overrated. LITE is in my top 10 all time. LITE wins.

Lolwut?

Nostalgia works on ALL FRONTS of media. Video games, movies, TV shows, books, music... the list goes on and on.

If you listen to a song enough, in this case Papercut, you're going to grow a personal bond with it, and with any kind of bond is a bias towards it. When something new comes up and threatens your bond, in this case Lost In The Echo, you will automatically defend your cherished memories of Papercut. In an argument of which song is better, you've listened to Papercut for so long that this bond feels unbreakable in strength.

There's a logical explanation why so many clueless people think nu-metal HEAVY GUITARZZZ Linkin Park is objectively better than the new boundary-expanding Linkin Park. It's nostalgia. Something new and arguably superior frightens them. Nostalgia plays a big role. It's the same reason people believe Numb is a better closer than The Little Things... But I'm getting off topic there.

In my personal opinion, I love Papercut to death, but taking nostalgia out of the picture it's clear to me that Lost In The Echo is superior on all fronts.

Papercut is a better song. LITE just has that new-song hype. I don't see what's so special about it. It seems like LP could shit out songs like that in their sleep by now.

I've never been a huuuge fan of Papercut but I think it's a good song. Anyway, I immediately loved Lost In the Echo. Musically is great. I liked absolutely everything about it. I liked Mike's rap verses, the backing vocals on both verses and choruses are spot on, Chester's melodies are catchy and he basically uses all his vocal abilities in an awesome way (clean voice, raspy voice and screams), plus the breakdown is very well done and leads to an epic ending.

My vote goes for Lost In the Echo.

For me i have always loved papercut and always thought that was the bands best album opener till i heard LITE. for me its about the emotion and intensity LITE has vs papercut. papercut sounds like mike was reading the lyics off the paper and just rapping. LITE sounds like hes pouring his heart into the words hes saying. but thats just me.

I honestly don't know. Yesterday, I would say Papercut, but today I'm stuck on LITE all morning, and I'm really starting to adore it.

No "nostalgia". Papercut demolishes LITE.
IMO
And I say "no nostalgia" because I'm not an old school fan
