From Apple's website (http://www.apple.com/stevejobs/):
Steve Jobs
1955-2011
Apple has lost a visionary and creative genius, and the world has lost an amazing human being. Those of us who have been fortunate enough to know and work with Steve have lost a dear friend and an inspiring mentor. Steve leaves behind a company that only he could have built, and his spirit will forever be the foundation of Apple
Very sad news. Rest in Peace.

It's such a shame that a true genius had his life cut short at 56 years old. Just think what he could have done for this world for another 30 or so years.

Oh man, I just woke up to this news. :(
Just horrible. We just lost one of the greatest innovators of our time. RIP.
Rest in peace Steve Jobs... Sucks badly that we lost him. I never actually bought a mac computer but I have owned plenty of iPod products in my time. Someday I still want to buy a mac..
I could never afford Apple, but I consider him one of the greatest tech minds of our era.
Rest in peace, Steve Jobs.
Say what you want about his company and its followers, the guy made a massive impact on technology, and animation for that matter as the person who essentially put Pixar into making films full-time. He had a huge impact on my world, and was a symbol of the modern age.

So, here's what is pissing me off about this. Not Steve. I'm not mad at him at all. It's all of these ingrates on the internet that are poking jokes and making light of a man that just died. I'm not an Apple fanboy at all and the only thing Apple that I own is an Ipod. That being said, Steve Jobs died from cancer. He didn't bring it on himself by drugs or alcohol. For someone to sit there and say the new Iphone is going to be called the "Idied" or that he died because of the news of the new Iphone is in really bad taste. I also saw someone say that it's another loss of jobs under Obama. Again, really? To the people poking fun at his death, I believe karma will catch up to them. Dying of cancer isn't something to be joked about or a new cool internet meme to be shared and laughed at. And I wonder why my hope for humanity is fading...

I have goose bumps from reading these post. Within the past year I had bought an Ipad2, Ipod 4th Gen., and a MacbookPro. I take great pride in owning such products. The products are revolutionary as was he. The man changed the world. Truly a great Icon. RIP :(

Never have been an Apple fan, but I do love my iPhone. Mad respect for that whole personal computing revolution he started, even if Gates finished it. Undeniably a genius, sad he's gone.
RIP Steve Jobs.
People have been leaving flowers outside some of the London Apple stores. They've also bitten into apples to create the Apple logo and left those outside the stores too!

Wow, what a very awesome display of respect. If I was near an apple store I might do the same!
MargieJPhelps needs to eat a bag of dicks.
On that note, the electronic billboard close by my work has an ad saying "Jobs, well done." in honor of the death of Steve Jobs.

My brother (who is a tech journalist) wrote an excellent piece that I feel really sums up the gravity of this loss:

Obama's statement (http://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/2011/10/05/president-obama-passing-steve-jobs-he-changed-way-each-us-sees-world) was the first one I read. I thought its last paragraph, in particular, rings very true.

I've been trying to gather up my thoughts and say how I feel without coming off rude, but I fear that no matter what I say I feel that it will be taken the wrong way. But I'll put it like this, I am not a big fan and was never a big fan of Apple and I did not agree with Steve Jobs business's policies or the way he normally ran things.
I did not know him personally, so I can't actually say what he was like outside of the job and his public image. Still, it is undeniable that he was a true genius, and an icon and inspiration to millions the world over, and with his passing comes a great loss. In his final years of life, he suffered from cancer which was no doubt very painful and placed tough hardships on his family and friends. A hardship that no one should have to endure. Now that he is gone, they know that he is now not suffering anymore pain. Yes, they greif, and they will for a long time, probably for the rest of their lives but I'd like to think that they're happy that Steve doesn't have to go through the misery he's been in for the last part of his life. And with that, my thoughts go out to his family, friends, colleuges, and everyone he inspired.
