So I came across this and thought it would generate some interesting discussion on respect, loyalty to fans and professionalism. Michael Buble was scheduled to play the Mohegan Sun Hotel in Uncasville, US tonight, but instead rescheduled the show for tomorrow to watch the Hockey Finals.

Taken from michaelbuble.com (http://www.michaelbuble.com/news/2011/06/14/mohegan-sun-show-rescheduled-june-16):

Michael's show at Mohegan Sun on June 15th is being moved to Thursday June 16th to accommodate all “Die-Hard” hockey fans in the Northeast, so they can view game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals. All tickets for the Wednesday night show will be honored for the Thursday night, June 16th performance at 7:30pm.

At the chance you cannot attend the concert on this new date, refunds will be available at the point of purchase until 7:30pm on June 15th. To secure your refund please contact the outlets where you purchased your ticket. Please note, you must request your refund no later than June 15th. Our apologies for any inconvenience the reschedule may have caused.
His reasoning that he's catering for his fans who also happen to be "die-hard hockey fans" is funny. I know he's Canadian and I know he can probably afford to do this and it probably won't harm his reputation at all, but is it fair to all the people who have made travel plans, booked hotels and centred their schedule around that date? What do you think?

I put this in Serious Chat because it's not about music per say, but instead about the ethics of the situation.

They have a refund policy so I don't see it as a major problem. At least he was honest enough give the reason behind the pushback... he could've easy pulled a "health issue" excuse or something along that line.

He seems already arrogant enough even before this event.

Seems like a decent thing to do, in my opinion. I see nothing wrong with this.

Also, the assumption (even if it may be valid) that this makes sense due to Buble being Canadian is pretty funny.

That aside, I can see a band rescheduling a show for the Superbowl. Why not the last game for the Stanley Cup?

I think it's fine. No one can predict circumstances on a final for any sport. Uncasville is within 100 Miles of Boston, which is, infact, a team that made the finals. It's definite Bruin territory. If I had tickets to a concert and it fell on the same night as game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals and my Blackhawks were playing, you're damn right I would skip the concert. The Bruins haven't won the Stanly Cup since '72. It's a big deal. Just like it is a big deal in Vancouver, who has never won a Stanley Cup Championship. It's a big deal to Buble who is from the Vancouver area. My point is, besides it being a big deal, he's giving people the option to get their money back from the tickets and enjoy watching the end of a great hockey season by both organizations. For the people that booked hotels and made travel plans, yes this sucks, but I know usually on a ticket it says something along the lines of "All programs, artists, dates and times are subject to change." That being said, the people travelling still have a chance to do something about it. If they can't make the concert, atleast they will get their money back from it. I don't see a problem catering to the area that a performance is supposed to take place.

I never cared for him to be honest. Though I don't see a problem with him cancelling or postponing a show due to an important sporting event such as the Stanley Cup Finals

Do you seriosuly not know who he is? Or are you just trolling me because I didn't write it "Michael Bublé"?

Wasn't there a newspost sometime last year about Michael Buble and Mike Shinoda collaborating on a track?

EDIT: Yup. http://www.lpassociation.com/forums/showthread.php?t=31355&highlight=Michael+Buble

I've heard of him, but I couldn't name one song or tell you anything about him except my friend said he was gay.

The real question would be, what's hockey?

Pretty darn gay alright :P

Also I don't think this is that big a deal. There are far worse reasons to postpone a show, and he only moved it back a day and people are being offered refunds if they still can't make it. Basically I think Minus and Hybrid are right.

Yeah, It's not like he went and insulted the crowd, and fired a shotgun at them......:shifty:

I never liked him, but I'm liking him more after this move. You gotta show your fans who's in charge sometimes.

If I could translate the Stanley Cup final to the Super Bowl, I'm definitely on Buble's side here. Assuming he's on a big tour, I wouldn't think there would be too many people that have to do anything more than get in their car to see the show.

Sucks that some of his fans might be pissed off, but knowing that he's from British Columbia and a die-hard Canucks fan, I can see why he did it.

The NHL isn't like other leagues where a few teams routinely make the finals. In fact, the last 8 Stanley Cup playoffs have yielded 8 different winners, with 13 different teams competing in the final round. The Canucks have only been to the finals 3 times in their 41 years as a franchise and the last time they were in the finals was in '94. Game 7 was the biggest game in franchise history.

It also helps that Uncasville is in Connecticut, which neighbours Massachusetts, and has a large Bruins following from what I can tell.

Shitty timing, but us Canadians need our hockey fix! :P

P.S: YAY BRUINS! WOOOOOO

He did make a beginners mistake though, I always work my schedule around the date of the Champions League final for months, so there's no way I can actually have something other to do on that day that watch football :D
