After reading Next it really got me thinking about this,

http://www.ornl.gov/sci/techresource.../patents.shtml
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gene_patent

A gene patent is a patent on a specific gene sequence, its usage, and often its chemical composition. There is controversy over whether these patents advance technology by providing scientists with an incentive to create or hinder research by creating a lot of red tape and fees to utilize research that is patented.

anyway I'm also wondering what peoples thoughts are on the subject so

Discuss.

That book was creepy.

I know I'm against the idea, it limits research with all the red tape.

It sounds so ridiculous. Patenting genes???

This is to help sick people. It shouldn't be about petty things such as who can use what because I found it first!

I don't know much on the subject, but I guess I'm against it.

Okay, say geneticist find a gene that may mean you have a chance of being "Emotional" "Rebelious" or what ever, one that may help cure disease or may cause disease. They can patent that gene and basically say they invented it.
