The Los Angeles Times (http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/lanow/2009/06/pop-star-michael-jackson-was-rushed-to-a-hospital-this-afternoon-by-los-angeles-fire-department-paramedics--capt-steve-ruda.html) reports that Michael Jackson was rushed to UCLA Medical Center Thursday afternoon.Los Angeles Fire Department Capt. Steve Ruda told the newspaper that Jackson was not breathing when paramedics arrived at his home and they had to perform CPR.
The pop star's immediate condition is not known, but TMZ.com (http://www.tmz.com/) is reporting that he may have had cardiac arrest.

E! News (http://www.eonline.com/) reports online that Jackson's father, Joe Jackson, said, "I am in Las Vegas but, yes, people in Los Angeles called me and are with Michael and tell me he was taken to the hospital. His mother is on her way to the hospital now to check in on him. I am not sure what's wrong. I am waiting to hear back from them."

I don't care what people think about Michael Jackson or whether or not people support his music...if he dies..the world will have lost a musical legend.

Guys, hang in there. The death report is unconfirmed..people are saying TMZ jumped the gun.

I just hope that's true.

Either way I hope any tabloid or paparazzi bastard who helped ruin his career sincerely repents for what they've done. There's no doubt in my mind the stress of being constantly in the public eye has contributed to his health problems.

Fair enough he brought some stuff on himself but you can't deny that this guy has been gravely mistreated by alot of people in the media and I hope this wakes people up to the fact that he's only human.

Michael Jackson moved music. He took it to the next level, and that's what this is all about. Yea, he was odd, and he had accusations that are unproven, but if it weren't for him, a lot of the music we all listen to today wouldn't exist.

The shock and utter disbelief of Michael Jackson's death equals that of when Elvis Presley died.

So it's now over 8 hours since the news of his death was confirmed..and I still can't wrap my head around it or believe that its true.

I remember when the reports came out a few months ago that his health was deteriorating and his publicists/family vehemently denied it acting like he was in beautiful shape. Then he had the physical two months ago and passed it with flying colors, thus being deemed fit to tour.

Some people wanted to see him fail, but I was rooting for him to succeed the entire time. I really felt the media had been terribly unfair to him over the years, and I was hoping to see a complete return to form.

It never would've struck me that we'd be here discussing his death. It's tragic, a complete shame, a horrific realization of how death can come at any moment; and it pains me that we'll never get to see if Michael Jackson's comeback would've been a success, or if his new music would've broke into the mainstream again..much like Thriller did around 26 years ago.

I just hope that in death he finally is recognized for the musical icon, philanthropist (he donated MAJOR AMOUNTS to charity), and musical inspiration that he was.

Love him or hate him, the fact that the world has been brought to it's knees over this (including the internet which seems to have lagged tremendously around the announcement of his death) is a testament to the impact this man had on the world and the music industry.

May he rest in peace and finally feel happy in death. R.I.P.

This is one of those things that you'll remember where you were when it happened. I just happened to be out last night and there were loads of different stories flying around about what had happened and if he was alive or had passed away. It was so strange 'cause it basically came out of nowhere, everyone thought it was a hoax. There were a load of songs dedicated to him anyway, and a lot of his songs were played and covers of his songs.

RIP M.J.

Oh yeah, does anyone think it's weird that all of his kids have Michael in their names? I've never noticed before.

I forget his name, but CNN did an interview with one of the Jackson family's publicist people last night just before they confirmed with the coroner's office that he had died. He drew a comparison between this and what happened to Anna Nicole Smith, that Michael was surrounded by people who pushed him to do more than he was capable of, which caused him to become extremely relient on prescription drugs just to be able to keep up with their expectations. I wouldn't be surprised if this turns out to be a case of him being on way too many prescriptions coupled with a high amount of stress causing his heart to just give up on him. Probably something that could've been avoided, which is really sad.

I am still shocked by what has transpired. I randomly went on the computer last night at 10:42pm to be exact. I remember the time as I noted it down when I saw a thread pop up on one of the other forums I visit. There, the thread was shown, with it stating "Michael Jackson Dies". Of course, this report was unconfirmed at the time so I had some hope that it was actually untrue. Unfortunately, I saw it confirmed 30 minutes later on Sky News.

Such a sad day. I'll always know where I was and what I was doing. I can't believe I spotted it at the exact time the thread was posted with the reported news of his death. If I didn't I wouldn't have known until this morning.

Michael Jackson was a musical legend. One of the many reasons I started to get into music was because of Michael Jackson. I grew up as a young kid really loving his music. He had such a powerful voice it was unreal.

This is a day I'll never forget.

RIP Michael.

My condolences to his family and friends.

Derek The Infamous
06-26-2009, 01:19 PM
I absolutely believe stress killed him. He was in the limelight 44 of his 50 years and was always under a microscope by the media.

Everyone in the news was expecting him to fail at his comeback, and I think the prospect of failing and that embarrassment was too much to handle.

Jordan
06-26-2009, 01:36 PM
I found out in form assembly at school this morning. I walked in and a couple friends told me that he'd died, and i just responded with a sarcastic 'really?' because i didn't believe them. But then they told me that he HAD actually died and it was kind of sad there for a minute.

Iain
06-26-2009, 03:36 PM
While it's sad that he died, I'm not too sure it was entirely just the stress of the tour. He's been accused several times of inappropriate conduct with children, he's been losing money for a while, and then there was that 50 date tour ahead of him. I hate to say it, but he might very well have just been really overwhelmed by it all and made the wrong choice. We'll have to wait on the coroner's report for the final word though. If that's what happened, I wish he would have realized that there are SO many alternatives to taking your own life.

R.I.P. MJ.

EDIT: The people ragging on him are making me sick. Literally. The least you can give the man is a little respect in death. It just shows how insensitive some people are, I guess.

RIP.

Such a huge loss.

I remember seeing the original airing of Thriller on Mtv in 1983, and being terrified by it (I was 9 years old). For those of you who haven't seen the full mini movie, it is amazing, even after 26 years.

I think this story sheds some light on just how universally relevant Michael Jackson was:

Jackson dies, almost takes Internet with him (http://edition.cnn.com/2009/TECH/06/26/michael.jackson.internet/index.html?iref=mpstoryview)

Paul

The guy was a weirdo, but I don't blame him. He has been in the spotlight almost his whole life and eventually that can ruin someone mentally. None the less, he is an icon and will always be remembered. His legacy is so big, our children will ask us where we were when we heard the news that he died.

RIP Michael Jackson.

EDIT: Authorities released the 911 call.

The truth is slowly starting to come out, and it's very ugly. Michael was unhealthy, a frail skeletal version of his former self...and by all accounts it seems he knew he was going to die, but denied it for his fans' sake.

I'm still unsure his "comeback" would have been successful. There's no way he could have performed the 50 dates. I'm not saying he wouldn't have made a lot of money, I'm saying that the performances would have, most likely, been aweful due to his medical conditions.

Derek The Infamous

I think he would've only done 10 shows tops, but that it would've been enough to resurrect his career.

That's how I think. I think if he was healthier (and not addicted to prescription drugs as they said) this would've been the start of a new chapter for him. From what I gathered, many wanted him to release a new album...they were past the BS and just wanted Michael back.

He looked pretty healthy to me. I'm beginning to think the death was sudden like Billy Mays and not something that was brought on by drugs.

(PS it's been confirmed that he wasn't lipsynching and actually singing over the instrumental, which is even more incredible.)

From my facebook:

Before I begin; I feel it is important to say that I've never actually written a note on Facebook before.

However; it is because of the untimely passing of Michael Jackson, a man of which I've considered to be one of the greatest entertainers of the of the last century (and my largest influence for wanting to somehow make it into music); that I felt it was necessary to learn how to post and share my thoughts, feelings and opinions with the world. This may not be the most poetically worded tribute; and perhaps such statements should be better left to his closest friends, but after just watching the memorial and seeing the strength of his daughter Paris as she braved the gaze of the world to pay tribute to her talented father...I feel inspired to pay a tribute of my own. A tribute to the true King of Pop.

I still remember the first time I actually listened to Michael Jackson and how I was introduced to his music over 15 years ago. It was in the early 90's around the time that Dangerous had came out, and MTV (in preparation for the Black or White video premiere) was running a day long marathon of his greatest music videos, which by chronology would include the movie he made called Moonwalker which to a 7 year old was just amazing. I still remember hearing Smooth Criminal for the first time; and watching Michael perform that incredible "anti-gravity" lean, later turning into a gigantic robot to save the children from the evil Mr. Big. It was epic.

Michael Jackson was larger than life, and from then on I was hooked.

In the years that passed, I would become in many ways an obsessive fan, collecting whatever cassette tapes, books, and merchandise I could find through my local area flea markets and music stories, gluing myself to the tv whenever one of his music videos was aired. To me MJ was the man!

When I would learn his lyrics and dance moves; my parents would set up a mock stage with a stereo, curtain and dance floor in our living room, and I would stand there in mock MJ garb...moonwalking across the floor, crotch grabbing..spinning, robot gliding and lip-synching along to all of his greatest hits. I loved it so much and while I am now much older, much less limber and probably cannot do any of his dances the way that I used to, I will always remember those times fondly and cherish the impact he had on my life and how awesome his music was to me.

In the recent years before his death, his image had become tarnished by unfortunate speculation, lies and rumors about his private life as well as jokes spread across television and the internet about his fascination with children. While at times, I will admit to having laughed at the occasional joke or even having made snide comments on my own...my respect for his music, his contributions to the world and his talents have never diminished and I still consider him to be a gift to the world, and a musical icon that was taken from this world far too soon.

We may never find out of his comeback tour would have been a success, or what his new album would've sounded like had it been completed...but at least in his death he can now be remembered for the man he truly was, and that was an incredibly talented musician, philanthropist, writer, actor and dancer who inspired millions across the globe. May you rest in peace Michael, we miss you already.

"In our darkest hour
In my deepest despair
Will you still care?
Will you be there?
In my trials
And my tribulations
Through our doubts
And frustrations
In my violence
In my turbulence
Through my fear
And my confessions
In my anguish and my pain
Through my joy and my sorrow
In the promise of another tomorrow
I'll never let you part
For you're always in my heart"

I don't have the patience to go through this thread, but I find it sick and disturbing that they'd actually give away tickets for a man's memorial service. I guess I can understand the reasons behind that, but what really disgusts me to my very core is people selling the damn tickets online for as high as $6000 (from what I've seen). I'm not even a fan of Michael Jackson, but that's just... words can't describe it. Have some respect, he's only been gone a week just about and people are still trying to suck every last penny out of the man.

I only caught the last 10 minutes of the memorial, but when his little girl spoke, I teared up.

What a memorial. Yknow I just can't get over the fact that he's not there anymore. I swear during the memorial I felt as though he was in the audience, watching and crying too :/

The song is very soothing.

What's everyones take on the custody battle between Jacksons ex-wife Deborah Rowe and Katherine Jackson (his mother). It was decided that his mother would have custody but until now, the ex never showed in interest in even visiting the children. I heard that Michael's mother paid Rowe to keep custody of the children.

What a horrible person that lady is.
