I think someone recently died from it in the UK. Other than that, from what I've noticed, there's not been any major coverage.

Just looked at a local news article and in North Carolina there are a total of 179 known cases, with 55 of those confirmed just since last Wednesday. A few days ago NC had it's first death from the swine flu, but I think he also had an underlying health problem. Other then that I don't know much else about it at the moment and whenever I do hear something they barely mention how the rest of the country/world is doing, so I have no idea how it is any where else.

Over 52.000 people got infected by H1N1 in over 100 countries. 231 people died from it in 11 countries. The united States have the most infected people, about 21.000.

It has been Pandemic status for a while. Not many people are worrying about it when they should. Once winter comes around and the weather is prime for spreading viruses, a lot of people are going to be in trouble.

There's been one or two deaths in Australia, as far as I've heard.

this
It's only as bad as the normal flu.
It's funny how people are going overboard with the "It's just media hype" stuff and acting all "ZOMG WEER INVINCIBUL". Hysteria is a two way street.

Not saying the normal flu isn't bad. It kills plenty of people each year, only older people or people with serious illnesses though.
Yeah, that wasn't directed specifically at anyone here. It won't automatically be a huge problem but it's still worth having some caution.

I know a few people who've had swine flu, there was quite a bit of it in my area. It took about a week for the people i knew to get over it. I have no idea what was going on over in mexico.
One of my friends has it right now, or so I'm told. It's been a few days, so yeah, there shouldn't be long until he's outlasted it presuming he actually does have it.

If there was a time to start to worry about swine flu, it may be now
A friend of mine caught swine flu, didn't realise it, kept on having sex with her boyfriend and now he has it.
I'll probably get it because my immune system is like lighting a regular match under water - non effective. I'll let everyone know what it's like when I get it lol.

I'm in Cyprus right now, but I know back in Arizona my neighbor across the street got it. Good thing I'm on the other side of the world.

The county I live in recently had its first swine-flu related death. I guess now would be a good time to move into my nuclear-fallout shelter.

Mmm turns out one of my best friends who I drive home on a daily basis has it.
Am I worried?
Hell no!

It is not called Swine Flu anymore but A(H1N1). It could be transmitted through direct contact not airborne. Ways to prevent it: Avoid direct contact with other people(hugging, kissing), wash your hands very often and take vitamin C.
There is nothing to be worried about it coz its not that serious , its just that its transmission is very fast BUT AS LONG AS it is early detected, proper medication and enough rest were given that solve the problem.
Awareness is always the best policy about this situation.

It could be transmitted through direct contact not airborne. But it's an airborne virus, isn't it?
Quick question -- if you come into contact with someone who has swine flu and you contract it as a result, how quickly do recognisable symptoms kick in?
If it's similar to human flu I'm guessing you get hit pretty quickly by the symptoms.

What differentiates swine flu from a "mild case of the flu", then?

Not a lot.
That's what I keep trying to tell people

Last night a guest came to me with the key to his safety deposit box, he was wearing a mouthcap so I asked him why and he told me his wife and son have the flu and that he had to go to the hospital to test himself as well. I guess I could've expected it soon enough, I'm in contact with thousands of different people everyday. I just hope it won't take over the entire hotel/disney.

Its not airborne, its transmitted through direct contact that's why it is advisable to have an alcohol and avoid crowd. Influenza A(H1N1) has similar sympotoms with other flu virus but if you got this Flu for more than 7 days..it is advisable to see a doctor especially if you have been to countries which are affected w/ Influenze A(H1N1). Again, its not Swine Flu anymore but its called Influenza A(H1N1) :D

What differentiates swine flu from a "mild case of the flu", then?
because the last time a new strain of influenza broke out, millions died.

Bird flu's actually more deadly than swine flu, it just doesn't spread as easily. Now, if that spread as easily, then I'd be worried.

sorry, shouldn't have said 'new'. I was speaking of the influenza outbreak of 19something. I'd give the exact date but i'm posting via mobile.

1929 it broke out in spain if i remember correctly. spread around the globe and killed millions. that's why the public is worried everytime a "new" flu finds its way.

I think that there have been a fair few medical break throughs in the past 80/90 years that make peoples worries completely unfounded.
