View Full Version : Drunk words, sober thoughts

I'm a firm believer in the old adage that "a drunk man's words are a sober man's thoughts," and it's proven to be true time and time again amongst myself and my friends.

I'd point out a handful of times it's happened to me, but they'd all take far too long to explain with any sort of relevancy to the topic. But I'd like to ask how many of you also believe in this adage?

Now, keep in mind that it doesn't have to be true all the time, just most of the time. Sometimes people really do just say stupid shit when they're drunk.

It's obviously easier to speak your mind without worrying about the consequences when you've been drinking.
So yea, I agree with it.

Yeah, I had one of these moments earlier tonight. I'm a believer in that when you're drunk, you become the true you, with nothing holding you back.

With slurred words.

All I know is that when I'm tipsy or drunk, I don't talk alot, but I touch alot.

I'm more confident when i'm drunk. I say things I wouldn't when I'm sober, but they generally aren't particularly embarassing or idiotic, despite what the Billy Maddison expert reckons in the NIN thread.

Of course I probably look and sound like a spastic, but the good intentions are there. Everyone has a different mood when they're drunk mind. I just enter a highly personable and friendly state.

Last time I was drunk (August or July I believe) for the most part I think I just sat there and cried about this girl. So yes.

I'd say so yeah, many a time have I gotten drunk and been all over a girl that I actually like or said abusive stuff to people I don't like and things like that.

It makes sense.

I can't speak for myself since I've never been drunk but I think it's true you loose all control over your emotions.

When you're angry you could get agressive, when you're sad you could cry, when you hate someone you might say it to them...

I don't believe that's the true you, though, because I think what defines you as a person has more to do with the emotions you surpress or hide than the emotions that you have, since I believe everyone is capable of having the same emotions.

yeah i agree with it and i have done it a few times, nothing really bad happened though

I say ''you have awesome boobs" when i'm sober too.

But i do agree with it, you do say the things aloud that you normally would just think because your too polite to say them.
However i also think people do that because if someones is offended or anything you can just say you are sorry and that you were drunk thus having no control.

Man up and have a few beers. Drunkness is amazing. How old are you?

Please don't take offence. I love you stoffy. <3

I think really what it comes down to is your inhibitions. I'm a shy, quiet, respectful guy normally, but I'll openly admit that I have an absolutely filthy, perverted mind, and that tends to come out when I'm drunk. When I drink, I become loud, obnoxious, and openly state anything that comes to mind (often times in a really badly slurred Scottish accent?). Some people are completely open when they're sober already, but they're definitely in the minority. And everyone reacts differently to the effects of alcohol, but generally speaking, you're more likely to speak your mind while under the influence. The problem is, you're also more likely to spew random crap that means absolutely nothing too, so it's still hard to tell what a person's true character is from being around them when they're drunk.

I tend to say stupid things when I'm in a completely non-intoxicated state. When I've had a drink? I tend to tell the truth or my thoughts (to people that I'm not exactly sure I should be telling it to). Not that I don't do that when I'm sober.

That kinda sounds like me drunk. I tend to become very flirty and start to say dirty thing. It also gives me the courage to hit on women more. So, I'm more of a "fun-drunk", if you will.

With that said, I rarely drink, but that's what happens when I do.

That's the way I get when I'm drunk. I haven't been drunk in a while but I'm usually a lot more open with how I feel about things. I'm also immune to falling against concrete floors.

Most people gradually get more and more tired as they're drinking. I get more and more hyper which is why my friends stopped letting me drink bombs (liquor mixed with an energy drink).

But I'm pretty much completely different drunk from how I am sober. It's kind of an unbecoming thing especially when there are pretty ladies around whom you'd never talk to sober.

Dude, I don't even know you and I certainly wouldn't want to meet you drunk or even sober.

While you sit around "manning up" I'll be doing something more usefull with my time.

I'm assuming your last few posts were made while you were drunk too because they were both ridiculously stupid and ridiculously pointless.

Then again do whatever you want but stop telling me what to do.

He doesn't need to man up, he's fine as he is, shows he's mature enough not to make himself look like an idiot in public.

How old are you?

I usually get drunk at parties, but thats cause I'm probably a stereotypical British drinker ;p
I think when your drunk you don't think about consequences, so people say what they really mean which can offend some people.

Linja

O.o I tend to think about the consequences, then go "ah, to hell with the consequences!". Which is bad. I should stop doing that.

There's nothing wrong with never being drunk. I've never been drunk, tipsy, but not drunk. And to say that you gotta "man up" and get drunk, is ridiculous. People choose not to drink for reasons. To stay pure, bad experiences with friends/family before, or anything like that. Seriously, not cool to tell people what to do, and "man up", Cale.

But on topic, I do think that people obviously become more open and speak their thoughts. I had a friend who did that, and admitted his feelings for a girl while drunk,. Oops. So, yeah, I definitley think drunk words are sober thoughts.

Ha, If I said that to him in real life he'd realise I was taking the piss. Sarcasm doesn't work on the internet. Sorry for the offence Stof. I'm sure I meant How Old, as in, are you able to drink legally. It just came out wrong.

That's devastating.

Long may 18 year olds be purchasing beer in Australia!

I actually think you exaggerate when drunk...

Like:

''I'd like to get to know that girl'' becomes ''I HAVE to have her!''

Or:

''It upsets me that my girlfriend had something else planned today.'' becomes ''I'm so unbelievably sad, because my girlfriend never has enough time for me!''

Well, this is just my opinion, based on what I've experienced.

I think being Drunk can Definitely "loosen" up the mind. I for one have never been drunk because..well I'm only 15 and none of my friends drink (cept few.) But My dad is always a Uptight Egotistic Prick  but when he is Drunk..My god he is the Coolest. He'll play Air guitar to Stairway to Heaven and sing it. He'll actually answer my questions with a calm voice and not a snappy "stay out of my business" tone. But that is just him. My mom's old boyfriend would get drunk and slur his words HORRIBLY and yell and forget what he did or said the next day. He never got Violent when he was drunk (thank god) just really bitchy and annoying.

So yes "Loosening" up the mind is what i would call it.

on the subject.. yeah. I do agree. I am so much more open when i'm drunk. I'm like a really loving drunk lol and unfortuantly open up a lot. It's alright, but I do regret it sometimes.

As it is, I probably drink too much, too often, but I'd agree with that statement.

It is much harder to not act or say what you really feel when you're drunk...

I think it also depends on the mood you're in before you start drinking, if you're in a really good you're probably just more likely to end up dancing like a prat, whereas if you're feeling abit down before you perhaps more likely to spill your soul to someone...

I noticed something the other night...

When drunk, actions are generally exaggerating feelings and so the actions are kind of what you think but multiplied by 10 or something.
