It was confirmed today that Linkin Parks Meteora album has hit the number 1 position in the UK album chart in its first week out selling the competition.

HitsDailyDouble.com reports Linkin Park's new album 'Meteora' should sell anywhere from 900,000 to 1 million in its first week, according to early reports from national accounts. That, of course, will make it an easy #1 on next week’s chart, crushing Celine Dion, who is on pace to sell 600,000 units of her new release 'One Heart'. Linkin Park’s 2000 debut, 'Hybrid Theory', sold 50k in its first week and has sold nearly 8 million in the U.S. to date.

I think it's in just the US from that sentence above, which makes sense as in a E! Interview the other day Linkin Park was told that they outsold Celine Dion's first week sales as it took her a week to do 600,000 in the US but less then a week for Linkin Park sell near a million.

To add to that, keep in mind the combined total worldwide for Hybrid Theory is 14+ million copies to date.

I believe it may be around 1-2 million in the US and a current total of 3-4 million worldwide in the first week. I mean think about it the US is only a chunk of the earth itself. We still got several other countries' sales that we aren't even aware of yet.

I was hoping Linkin Park would set a new record..I dont think 1 million is enough to do that...but its still 3 days till the US charts are released LP could easily reach almost 2 million in that time.

Hmm keep promoting Meteora guys! Get more people to buy the CD! :teehee:
