View Full Version : No Roads Left
By the end of today, everybody should have heard this song.
This song could be my favorite Linkin Park song. It's at least in the top 5.
Discuss the bonus track.
I love how it keeps building and building in the last two minutes. Mike's singing is great! Where was this on In Between? I couldn't believe it was him.

This song definitely deserved to be on the album.
But then again LP has a rep of having B-Sides that are just plain better than A-Sides.
plain awesome - should have made the cut for the album. thats all im going to say. mikes singing is.. well its outstanding. i couldnt believe it was mike either mark *gobsmacked*

So the only new track released anywhere is on iTunes. All other places have live stuff..
As for the special edition, does it actually have songs with Mike singing instead of Chester? or did that not make the cut or something?
ALSO, I know people here downloaded the pre-order from iTunes so burn that bonus song to a CD and upload it!
as Mike always says Download that shit! and since it is a bonus track only on itunes, im sure he doesnt care!!
thanks guys!

This song is fucking awsome.
Mike's singing is 100 times better than on fucking over-hyped In Between. His voice kinda reminds me of Jacoby of Papa Roach. :)

Why the f*** is this song not on the album, one word 'wow'. He can sing like this? I bet he can't sing this live though - maybe one reason it isn't a proper release (in case it became a single and then he'd have to sing it).

This is a very good song but it does not belong on M2M and I'm glad they didn't put it on there. I mean it's not the same style. Maybe there will be more of this style on the next album but I love M2M and I want them to keep their ballads. 2 songs like this would be nice, plus 4 heavy hard songs, then the rest ballads. That is what I want out the next album.
It sounds awesome. I hope they release a re-issue of "Minutes to Midnight" with all the B-sides eventually (a la Stone Sour), even if it's highly unlikely.
That or just put them all on the next LPU. I'd be in heaven.

I disagree. I think it most certainly should have been on MTM. Just like how I feel the High Voltage Remix should have been on Hybrid Theory.
I think it easily could have fit on the album. Hell, it could have took the place of "In Between" and the album would still have flowed well.

NO. Nobody do that.
I don't give a crap what Mike has to say about downloading music, I care what the RIAA says and may do.
I've already banned one person for sharing a link to it. Find the song on your own, and not through these forums.
Woah one person banned today *blinks* I do miss stuff when I got to college.
From all the reviews so far, I know this'll be the best
Woooah i love this song. Mikes voice sounds so different, but its great.
Great song. Definitely got into this a lot more than In Between & Hands Held High, could have took the place of any of those tracks. Most probably In Between though and the album would have been even better. Great song going by first & second impressions, and yes, Mikes singing is great.

Why on God's green earth did they not put this song on the album?! It completely and utterly OWNS. It might even be better than In Pieces, which I love to death. Mike does some damn fine vocal work on this track.
This track is going right on my iPod playlist.

05-15-2007, 09:25 PM
i'm just glad that they released it.
This song is pretty awesome. They definitely should have replaced this with In Between. His voice sounds a little robotic at times though...
Although his vocals aren't as powerful as Chesters, it adds another dimension to the band. They should definitely try interchanging vocalists within a song, a la Taking Back Sunday or something. They have two vocalists, they should use a combination of the two more often.

I really like this track. It just keeps growing on me. Someone already said this on this thread, but IMO the only reason they didn't put this on the CD is because Mike might have a hard time singing this live. Just a thought. He is obviously a good singer but there are ALOT of singers that can't replicate their songs live. This is quickly becoming one of my favorite songs they have released.
Kind of odd they only give it to the people who pre-ordered though... pre-ordering on itunes doesn't even make a difference, you don't even pay for it in advance you can cancel it at any time.. And it's not like they will run out of copies to sell you.

I can't believe they left this off the album, its not like they were particularly worried about how it flows anyway, look at the jump from Bleed It Out to Shadow Of The Day, huge contrast there.

this is what I believe the sound of there next album will be. This singing is amazing. It's just mike singing, so maybe on the next record we will see more of these singing tracks. My guess is that the # of tracks was reduced due to the theme of the album, but this song carries an energy that I believe will sound better with other songs. If LP makes a daring feat every album, watch out Led Zeppelin, you may just be forgotten.

I do love this song. But I can kinda see why they left it off. The album was already all over the place, which is fine by me, but it often causes reviewers to give an album a lower score. Adding another totally different song to the album would just make it even more all over the place.
That said....it is ammmmmazing. I kinda wish there was a little more complexity to the guitar in the verses....but I can live with that, cuz the rest of the song is AMAZING. Gah, I can't wait till my package finally arives, cuz it didn't come today =[

I finally heard this song on youtube and I must say I am very impressed by Mike's voice. The man can sing! He isn't as good as Chester as Chester > Mike Shinoda, but the man has a very nice singing voice. I guess he has learned to develop a very high vocal range from doing backing vocals and harmonies on MTM.
This should have taken the place of In Between, which to me is the worst LP song they have ever done.
This song is full of energy and shows more emotion in Mike's voice than In Between.

What are you talking about? Awefull? His voice is doing one of the things I thought only Chester voice could do: Adding that whole emptyness to the song. Like in My December.

And I think if they replaced this song with... Let me see... Hands Held High then they would've balanced the album pretty much better.

I absolutely love this song.
Ever since I saw on the D'Fused special (which I think is also the thing on the DVD) Mike singing part of this song, I was in love with it.
I've been playing around with it and find that it fits perfectly right in between In Pieces and Little Things
What I find most ironic is the fact that so many people hate this album because of the change in sound while so many other people now rank this song in their list of top LP songs when this song sounds absolutely nothing like HT or Meteora and, really, I think, sounds not much like other songs on MtM (we just don't notice the difference as much because there are so many different types of songs on the album)
They just have to play this live :)
they probably will in like a few years at a concert
Mike: Yeah this is a song we wrote..during MtM was being Written...this song is called No Roads Left
of course thats after a year or so practicing it so he CAN sing it live

Why wouldn't he be able to sing it live?
On the Making of Minutes to Midnight, there was a scene where he's singing the song in a booth while they're live-tracking the song and it sounded perfect.
And at the same time, almost all the background vocals he does during their live performances sound totally fine.
I think this song will become a fan favorite at concerts seeing as it has already become one online.
And we know the guys read both their own boards and these.

Don't get me wrong, I like this song a lot, but it feels very incomplete to me. The drums could be a lot catchier, and more prominent, and they could come in a little earlier on. Mike's singing is great though, and when the song finally reaches it's climax it feels like the "big sound" LP is known for. Definitely feeling the rhythm guitar in this one.
In between isn't bad, i don't think this should have replaced it, but i do think both should have been on the album, if they messed around with this one a little more. To me it sounds like a good demo.

Kinda annoys me that so many people are hating the album right now, most of them hate In Between. Hmm.. I wonder what would have happened if they replaced In Between with this AMAZING song and then put In Between as a B-Side. Hm, I might get flamed for this, but I really couldn't get into this song at all. It sounded like it was going to swell with sound but it didn't, it just seemed too..boring for me, without a real climax in it. *shrug* Just my opinion.

Hm. I must be in the minority of people who don't like it. It just seems to build and build towards something that never comes.
I totally understand if some people don't like the song, but to say the song builds to nothing is an impossibility.
At 2:32, where Mike leads into the bridge by extending "No roads left but one..." and the guitars breakdown, that is a huge build-up.
I was walking along to this song the other day, and during the choruses and bridge, I had to start running.

Yeah, now that you've mentioned it, they do sound alike. Or Maybe its a totaly different song, but has the same reversed screaming effect like ASP. I still wanna hear it though.
I don't think it's reversed screaming. I changed the file to a .wav and then put it into sound recorder and reversed it. All I got was an even weirder sounding scream. I believe it's just nonsensical screaming.

The first half of the song sounds like something from Stadium Arcadium and the second half is just boring. In other words, I don't like it.

I am in fact angry this did not make the album. I didn't know Mike could sing like that.
I'd switch it for In Between.

Agreed. No Roads Left was an excellent song. Although it seemed to have lacked some tunings here and there; it showed much less flaws than In Between. And lyrically its better than In Between.
yes..well at least they released it as a B-side than nothing at all

On iTunes of all places. I would've much prefered it be on the What I've Done CD single as well.

I feel like a broken record when I say this, but it just wouldn't fit very well with the record.

But in my head it seems like In Between seems too pop-like...

True, but In Between flows a lot better than No Roads Left.

I take it I'm the only one who thinks it's crap, then.
They should have included a song combining elements of Pig Destroyer and Isis instead of In Between, then people would be moaning about it not being poppy enough.
This song is totally amazing!
:-D
Is it true that they have made this song in 8 years or something like that? Cause i saw it on the DVD that Chaz & Mike said that at the part when they recorded this song.

You sure you aren't mistaking No Roads Left for Breaking the Habit? I don't remember hearing anything about that.

I don't think so, 'cuz I do remember the band mentioned that one of M2M' songs was written years ago. It was actually an idea that they never took seriosly or accomplished and they kept that idea for future records and they used it in M2M. They mentioned in one of the LPTV episodes..
;)
I'm dissapointed that they didn't include this song in the new record because In Between makes me puke, lol

I think its an amazing song, although a few little touches could have been added to the first half, some sampling from Joe maybe.
It would have fit well between 'In Pieces' and 'The Little Thing Give You Away' in my opinion. Shame its not on the standard release.

I don't think No Roads Left should have been on the standard release. It's a good song and all but it still needs some work all over. The vocals have to be the best part of the song though.
I wouldn't say it's one of my favorite LP songs so far, but it's really good. I love the melody and the lyrics....and the fact that Mike sings in it.

I like this song. I like the lyrics, And i like mike's singing vocals. This song is just awesome, All in all. Well worth the listen, But probably not fitting on the album, It is a little different. I wonder if there are other demos where mike sings, It would be interesting to hear.
This song is good. But, what's the problem with B-sides? It technically was on the album...

Technically, it was involved in the album writing process... it wasn't included for whatever reason. But, it was released as the b-side.

It's like we're used to him doing his rap routine. I had a hard time thinking that was really him at first.

*hopes that NRL will be a bonus track on "Given Up" single CD*
Think about it, that will be better instead of being on LPU V7.0. If NRL isn't on there, then they'll be an extra space for another B-side for us to hear.
Besides, we'd have overplayed it too much by the time V7.0 comes out (just like QWERTY).
Anyone noticed the strings on NRL? I think they make the song even more powerful and epic.

on the dvd you can hear how the NRL strings are being recorded.
as for LPU 7.0: this year it's time for a bad lpu cd again. it might even be all live again, the new songs and stuff.

So today was the first time I heard this song... I'm really late, not to mention lame. I had never even heard of it:rolleyes:
Anyway.. I didn't know Mike had it in him. I love the song :D
And for the record, In Between is kick-ass.

Yeah, I noticed that too with the LPU Cd's. The odd numbers have always just been live tracks.
Hopefully LP will break this tradition with a CD full of B-sides, & studio songs. (even if its likely it'll never happen) Cause the re-realease of the HTEP was an 'odd' number and that was all studio tracks.

I love this song...
I think is one of my favorite b-side songs.
And Brad's guitar is just classic and for some reason, it still remainds me of one of their old songs.

Hmm...
On my first listen, the song was like a: Eh, so what?
On my second, though, I started to think, hey, this is a pretty good song. The guitar sounds BIO-ish, though. Mike does have some great vocals in this song. I wouldn't go as far as calling it one of my favorites, but I'd put it probably one notch below. It doesn't sound that epic, but still a good song nonetheless.

Not compared to CD audio quality. iTunes for whatever boneheaded reason expects people to PAY for lossy-compressed audio files. Not to mention that the iTunes download of the song is mastered so far into the red that it actually distorts the signal.

songs on most CDs released in the last 15 years or so peak at -0.1db. the same goes for tracks on the iTunes store, which are no doubt just ripped from the CD masters.
but you know this.

Right, because when you hit 0dB, it starts distorting the signal. I don't know what iTunes is doing then, because almost every song I've ever gotten from there goes into the red. My audio file of NRL is directly from iTunes, just with the DRM removed, and it flat out buries itself in the red on the bridge of the song (I just see a solid wall when I open the file in Cool Edit, can't even see the peaks and valleys of the sound waves unless I zoom in).

iTunes has nothing to do with it. ALL music you buy on CD is this way. and if it is all on iTunes, then everything on iTunes will be that way too.
