I just saw this and I cannot believe it. What a tragedy, you never wanted to believe that he could really die from this stuff. Crikey. RIP.
Heaven just won't be heaven for the crocs now.
I can't believe it either. Wait, yes I can. Easily.

Although I thought at first my friend was kidding around with me, I'm afraid to say that the above post title is indeed true. Sometime earlier this week, while filming a documentary on the Great Barrier Reef; Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin was killed in a diving accident involving a sting ray.
It almost feels kinda surreal. After all, this guy has survived being bitten by crocs, being poisoned by spiders and snakes, and yet he dies from a sting ray barb to the heart.
This is terrible.

It's a tragedy alright, he was quite an entertaining guy whom alot of actors now immitate in comedy's etc.
After all the crocodile business he ends up getting killed by a stingray...
Nevertheless it's pretty fucked up, R.I.P Steve Irwin.

Merged the two threads.
This is indeed a tragedy, It's hard to believe. He was a great entertainer and was always enthusiastic. It's a shame to see him go like this. R.I.P Steve.
how dare you! i have no respect for sucha man!
As for you, what is your problem? Who cares if you didn't like his work or whatever, he had children and a family, if you don't want to pay respect to Steve at least show some for his family & friends. I can't believe the mentality of some people, I swear. Just stay out of the thread, I don't want it flooded with disrespectful comments such as yours.
Cale.

I've dived with Sting Rays in the Great Barrier Reef and they won't even come near you unless you provoke them. I never heard of anyone being attacked by them unprovoked. Knowing Steve Irwin, and after seeing how he winds-up snakes, crocodiles and any other creatures he comes across, it's his own fault.
I'm not saying "good riddance" or "i'm glad he's dead". But Jeez, he has a family, he should have been more careful.
R.I.P indeed.

You should die.
I thought the title said "Dies in driving accident" and that he was driving a Stingray.
RIP.

shut up you fuck.
he had a wife and children, they have to grow up without a father, not an easy thing to do, so show some respect, idiot.

Everyone calm the hell down. Seriously.
Bailey, you are warned for being disrespectful. You could have easily stayed out of this thread if you didn't like the man. Simple as that.
Everyone stop flaming since action has been taken care of.
As for his death, I feel so sorry for his family and friends. I'm sure lots of people feel sorry since he's brought entertainment in our homes for many years. R.I.P.

Saw it on the news today. I didn't really know the guy but he left his wife and kids behind so that's really tough.
Really can't believe what happened like Derek said, he survived a lot of stuff.

I've watched him since I was 4. I used to run around my house in kahki's holding a rubber snake yelling "CRIKEY HE'S A BIG ONE!"
I cried when I found out.
This is a terrible loss.

This is unbelieveable. He was kind of one of those people who seemed like he could never die, like he was some type of superhero who's cheated death countless times but always came out alright, and then the most far-fetched thought of death takes his life.
It's really unfortunate...
RIP Steve. :(
Although I never really found him all that entertaining, I must say, he was a pretty cool guy. Sucks that he didn't go out fighting a crocodile to save his family or something but nonetheless RIP
Crikey!

Crikey is right. Wow, I always thought of Irwin as such a.. kind of legend. RIP Steve Irwin, and all the best to the family he left behind.
I thought it said driving as well, for some reason.
I used to watch his programmes a lot. There is no justice in the world, considering some of the people who are still alive.

I used to watch his shows all the time, but got sick of them when he became too dramatic. But this news was just a complete shock. It's horrible how sudden this was. RIP Steve Irwin.

this really made me upset when i heard this. i wasnt a big fan of him, but i had this feeling that he would live forever, silly as it sounds. At least he died doing what he loved. he will be missed.
This is really insane. I used to watch his show all the time, and everyone would joke about him saying one day he's going to get killed. I feel really bad for his family, and I'm feeling really sad for him, too. It's like that feeling I got when John Ritter died. RIP...
Everyone calm the hell down. Seriously.

I always thought that Steve Irwin was one of the most incredible people alive. Some of you might think lesser of him, but I thought he was amazing. How he works with Crocodiles, and how knowledgable he is about reptiles always inspired me to learn more about them and instigated my interest for reptiles. My mom told me about it this morning, and I almost cried. After having a horrible mood last night, and being in a better mood this morning, this really made me sad.
Even if he had provoked the Sting Ray, he was unlucky. According to the article(s), rarely can a Sting Ray kill you. He was very unfortunate and the barb went to his heart. He lived a life of risk, and I knew that he would die taking a risk. I didn't think he'd die so soon, but he died doing what he loved doing.
You will be missed, Steve Irwin. You will be missed.
R.I.P. Steve "The Crocodile Hunter" Irwin.

Thats kind of amazing that hes actually dead now. After all he's been through, I half figured him to be killed while riding a lion through a herd of stampeding elephants or something along those lines. He was a good man.

i freaked out when i found the news.
its sad that they didn't have enough time to use a defribilator on him, it could've possibly saved his life.
this makes me wonder if his family will continue doing this, since his parents used to do the same thing he did.
his poor wife and children. that must be so traumatizing. to see the person they love, doing what he loves, and having it come back and bite him in the ass.
what a sad day in pop culture. really.
RIP steve.

"To honor Steve and the enormous contribution he made to the world and to our company, DCI will rename the garden space in front of Discovery's world headquarters in Silver Spring, Maryland, the "Steve Irwin Memorial Sensory Garden."
DCI is looking at the creation of the Steve Irwin Crocodile Hunter Fund, which we'll affectionately call "The Crikey Fund" to honor Steve's passion and exuberance for conservation and the animal kingdom. This fund will allow people from across the globe to make contributions in Steve's honor to support wildlife protection, education and conservation. The fund in addition to contributions by DCI will also aid Steve's Australia Zoo in Breewah, Australia as well as educational support for Bindi and Bob Irwin. "

My official opinion! No, I don't care how you feel about it so please save yourself the trouble of complaining.
1. He kind of had it coming, I mean, he fucked with too many animals that should have been left unfucked with. As far as animal cruelty, it's not so bad, despite what a lot of PETA activists probably say. It's not half as bad as working in a slaughter house. It's more of a matter of common sense. Wrestling with huge animals is dumb, especially when they have large muscles and sharp teeth/claws/etc.
2. Wow, this totally sucks. I feel bad for the guy. I feel bad for his family. I can't believe it! I thought he was invincible. Animal Planet will never be the same.
P.S. Branden, yes I did copy/paste my message from MySpace. I repeat myself. Sorry!
I never cared for Steve Irwin but you never want to see something like this.
There are always going to be the haters for whatever reason, but you've always got to respect someone who's put his life on the line countless times just to keep people entertained.
As bad as it is to say, I'm surprised this didn't happen years ago, with the way he provokes animals all the time.
But now that it's happened, it's hard to believe.
When my dad told me, I dropped everything I was doing and just sat there.
I mean, you always wait for it to happen. But then, when it does, you just can't believe it.
May he rest in piece.
Anthony.

See, many people wonder how one can feel sad for someone whom he never met - yet, not only it is possible, it's totally normal. Will said it - this guy put his life on the line to entertain people, and this desire to make people go through particular emotions at his own risk is more than admirable.
I haven't watched this guy's show, but I've heard quite a lot about it and it seemed really interesting. It's always sad to see such people go. May he rest in peace!

What people fail to realize, is that he fucked around with nature because he LOVED nature. He called himself the crocodile hunter because he wanted people to love crocs, and all the dangerous animals he encountered during his show.

Exactly. The so called "provoking" was to inspire the animal to respond so he could show people the power of the animals he deals with in hopes to gain respect for them. He wanted nothing more than to educate people who might not fully understand the risks of coming in contact wih these creatures.
One of Steve's closest friends explained on Good Morning America that the stingray is a favorite food of sharks and there was the very real possibilty that this one had just escaped becoming lunch. Steve happened upon it and acted with the knowledge that the stingray are very docile creatures. Ya ever pet a dog with an injured leg ? Same deal... It breaks my heart to see people say he "had it coming".
He loved his work and did all he could to preserve his fathers goals and achievments. I have no doubt in my mind that Steve's wife and children will continue to be enviromental warriors in honor of all that they love...

By, "had it coming" I did not mean that he deserved it, because obviously he didn't. The only people who deserve to die are people who kill other people. He didn't harm any anyone. He did good things to help people understand animals, and he made a good living off of what he loved to do. A lot can be said for that. I have a huge amount of respect for anyone who can live off of their passions. But still, he was nuts to do the shit he did.
I'm surprised that he died via stingray. Personally, I thought he was going to get a poisonous snake bite. Either way, it sucks.

But still, RIP.

I always thought he'd get mauled by a bear, seeing as how you can only piss a bear off by sticking your thumb up its ass for so long before it's going to try to eat honey out of your face.
That's why I'm so surprised it didn't happen years ago. Like I said, it's one of those things you wait for to happen, but you never believe it when it actually does happen.
And for the record, the "bear" thing was meant to be taken lightly, as a joke.

That is a sin.
And I've been talking to other people about it, and some of them said good, he deserved it because of how he played with animals.
That's like saying a Firefighter Plays with fire and deserves to die.

Loved that in South Park
Anyways, yeah it sucks for this guy to die the way he did. But least he did it doing the thing he loved the most, even if he got killed in self-defense.
Truth be told, I always thought he would've died by the most non-lethal animal, so this is kind of true. No offense to anybody at all.

I always had this cartoony, comical vision of how he'd go, he'd piss off a huge bear and it'd swallow him in one bite, then you'd hear "Crikey!" muffled from inside its stomach.
Ahh dammit...why does it always have to be the people that are actually really cool? :(

I still am really shocked by his death. Sure many people say that he would have wanted to die in a way which included his work which he obviously loved but he had a little daughter. His wife, I’ve heard has not heard about his death yet, as she is doing this documentary in Tasmania or something like that.
He worked with all of these really dangerous animals (much more dangerous than a Stingray) and now his death was cause by a stingray which is like harmless in front of crocodiles. It’s terrible really. Rest In Peace mate.

So last night I saw Steve Irwin's close friend on Larry King Live. The guy was filming the documentary with Steve Irwin and he was there during the whole thing. Larry King kept asking for the gorey details and other hurtful questions. He made the guy cry! It was so sad. The whole interview was kind of sick. My point is, Larry King is a bastard.

Although I've just watched his show a few times, him, his accent, his nature (no pun intended), his clownyness and typical accent is just legendary, and I hate for this to happen, especially cosidering he has a family. That said, its good that he has (as I can see in this thread) gets the repect he deserves for being who he was, and respecting our Earth.
May he rest in peace.
